Yesterday I was out deer hunting. Let me preface this by declaring I am not a trophy hunter, since anything I kill goes to feed the family, I tend to prefer them young and tender!
I was still hunting on the ground by a stream and two deer walked within 25 yards of me. There was a large doe and a small spike. I was in the thick woods and elected to carry my 12 gauge auto loader and buckshot. I shot the doe and dropped her and the spike didn't run off, he sidestepped a little and just stayed there. I think a pellet may have grazed him and stunned it a bit or the shock wave confused him, but either way it was pretty untypical whitetail behavior. So, I shot a second time and took him too.
There are no restrictions on any size/sex deer where I hunt. In fact the deers number have become so plentiful they are actually a nuisance nowadays.
The meat won't be wasted. It will be use for food. Would you have shot both? For some reason I feel guilty today and I don't know why.....
