I would love to learn the sport close to home, but don't want to buy tons of gear and travel 1/2 way across the globe only to find it's not as fun as I thought.

I am 17 and I am planning to climb Mount Rainier in August of '08 (I have nearly 8 months to train). I am physically fit and hope to train even more (I am very disciplined and committed to this goal and I am willing to put in the time and effort). I am planning to go with a company that organizes and guides climbing expeditions, so I know I will be in good hands, but I am concerned about whether Rainier is too much for a first time climber. When I spoke to the company I am climbing with, all they said is that I have to train up to the point where I can climb with a 40 pound pack. I understand that Rainier is not a terribly technical climb but I am still wondering if someone could give me some advice. Unfortunately, I am not able to do any hiking or climbing in the mountains during my training because of where I live but I will have a time period of about 2-3 weeks in Washington (prior to the climb). Is that enough time to get the experience I need in the mountains? Please help me!!

Im going climbing with one of my guy friends and im 5'3 about 135 and he is almost 6ft and probaly has a good 60 pounds on me.

Im going to Rock'n and Jam'n. We don't have a 3rd person to anchor me down, do indoor places have devices attacted to the ground to anchor?
Im new to climbing and I think those exist, I think I remeber seeing them there when I went with my rock climbing class in school last year.

I have never done rock climbing before and I am taking an intro class that starts in 2 weeks. What should I do to prepare with the little time that I have? Will I completely embarrass myself - and how can I avoid this? :)

Ok, so I am going to climb everest. I know this without a doubt. But why? Why do we want to climb her? Is it stupid? The risks are sooo high. What is the motivation, for you?

There's a tower in my neighborhood that I really want to climb to take pictures of the skyline from. It's a pretty disused tower in a pretty slow part of town. Here it is:

My question is, will I be hurt in any way by the signals being transmitted? What is the purpose of this tower, and is it safe to climb? I need advice on this.

It can get annoying to get stuck halfway up a bolted climb. What's a convenient (and safe) way to get back down without leaving gear on that bolt hanger?

I'm not looking to be a mountain guide, rather I need a recognized certification for single-pitch situations,so that my company's insurance policy will allow me to take my clients cragging. Anyone know any schools that offer that? I'm in Thunder Bay, ON, Canada, but I would obviously be willing to travel for this.

These routes are just to the left of the famed "Crest Jewel 5.10a" on North Dome which I followed several years ago. One of these may be the top of the "Royal Arches Route" which starts on the Valley floor, but I don't want to do the entire "Royal Arches", I want to approach from the Tioga highway side and end the route back at the top of North Dome.

I was on a site a week or so ago, I think it was Planetfear and I stumbled across a picture of a girl with a really nice tatoo on her shoulder bouldering. And she had this bouldering mat with a really nice cover. I don't remember the name of the company that make them, although it was given. I don't remember anything about the picture other than what I've just said. Does anyone know any companys that make cool bouldering mats?
