I think that you need to answer that for yourself.
George Mallory, in the 1920s, said about climbing the Big E, "...if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won't see why we go. What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life.
That is what life means and what life is for..."
Nuff said.

Well my friend first of all good luck with that and take care of your self up there..
about the question : some times your feelings are too complicated to explain and you just can say that you are doing it because you feel like you want to do it. climbing everest or any mountain like that has very high risks so you gotta do it only when you are sure thats what you want. some people do it for fame , some people do it for money (very rare) but doing such things for such reasons is a waste of life and fooling your self because most of the time you are alone up there.... you and you pushing your way up and down the mount and struggling to survive . . . " we do not live to eat and make money but we eat and make money to live" this covers a part of the fact........ have fun

When I was a rock climber and wilderness guide, I rock climbed because I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. It didn't matter whether someone else had done it or not. What mattered was finding out what I was capable of doing. I often apply what I learned on a rock face to my life-if I could get over the fear and still move up that face, I can face anything off the rock, down on the ground, safe and sound.

It's the highest point on earth. That's it for me. I don't think it's too foolish. There's a lot more dangerous stuff out there you can try to do. K2 for one. With the right training and the right state of mind Everest is relatively safe in my opinion.

Only a few people have done it. And not everyone can even say they know someone who has. I also plan on trying it 1 day. To those about to rock....we salute you.
