Since you will either be following his lead or top roping, you should know that you will never be able to fall more than a foot or two and that you won't be hurt - this should allow you to focus on listening to his instruction and not getting freaked out.

Ask him if you can practice with the harness so that you know how to put it on and tie a "figure 8 follow through" knot - which is the only one you will need. He will be able to show you.

Good Luck and have fun

when rock climbing you need to focus on the fact that you are safe and just focus on making it to the top. Before you start look at the wall and decide the way your going to make it up so that you are not worried and that you are set and focused. When you get on the wall try to keep all of the pressure and you r wieght focused in your legs cause it will help you to keep your arms from getting tired to quickly. While climbing try to stay close to the wall or the the rocks where ever you may be climbing cause it also helps to keep from getting worn out fast. Focus on your goal trust yourself and have fun.

Just listen and do whatever yer dad says. The last thing you need are pointers from this forum. If you get scared, just focus on climbing and remember you are actually safe.

Just relax and listen to your dad. Hopefully he knows what he is doing and will teach you all you want to know.

Why don't you ask him before you leave?
