I was wondering if it would work.

No they haven't and no it wouldn't work. Ropes are not used for climbing, they are used for catching you when you fall - but we do eat them while waiting for our favorite routes, my kids like them.

I think if you only weighed a couple of ounces it might work. I'm not sure what the exact tensile strength is on Nerds rope, though. I know that I can pull it apart with my arm strength, so it's not really strong. It probably wouldn't hold a fall - unless you only weighed a few ounces (like I said before).

I guess you could do an experiment by hooking it up to a scale (like the ones in the produce section at a grocery store) and pulling on it. Look to see what number of pounds the scale reads when the "rope" breaks. That'll be your tensile strength.

But...it's not safe for real climbing. Maybe you could market it as candy climbing rope...but make sure you put a warning label on it ("Not for use in actual climbing" or some such wording)...like those toy caribiners they sell for key chains.

And Tahoe T...ropes are certainly used for climbing. The act of protection is part of climbing. And climbing also includes aid climbing, where the rope can be used directly to climb up. I've hauled myself up out of crevasses on a rope and jumared up safety lines.

It would make a good ad for the company, a guy out on some slab or other. Hit's a sudden wall of fatigue and takes a bite out of the end of his rope. Gets a boost and sends the climb in record time.

Are you talking about the candy? I suppose it's possible if you only weigh a few ounces. Is this a 7 year old asking this question or something?
