In an hour and 45 minutes I'll be in my back yard, shooting a gun into the ground, just like I do every year, just like my neighbors do, just like they've done every year too. It's something that is just done, don't really know why. Shooting into the ground is a lot safer than fireworks being lit off. I watched a guys roof to his house catch on fire after a large bottle rocket that he lit went retarded and hit his roof.

Ignorance, some of which is displayed right here. People have been killed by guns being shot into the air, one example was Shannon Smith in Arizona. Another one was Selina Akther in New York.

its a tradition to make a lot of noise when they new year turns to scare away any evil spirits from the previous year. Often times, guns were the most logical choice because they're loud and they were handy.

Tell me this...

What, NOISEWISE, is the difference between shooting guns on New Years eve and Fireworks?

Thats why they shoot them...to make noise and celebrate and be festive. Not a thing wrong with it, only citiots thing its wrong and thats because their mommy or teacher told them so.

Noone on record, EVER has been killed by a bullet that was shot in the air and came down on someones head. Thats pure BS. the laws of probability say that it will stick in the moon before it falls back on someones head.

If you are going to spread crap stories, at least make them accurate.

To advertise their stupidity.

It's great for the rest of us - clear defined lines of who to party with and who to give a good 50 mile radius to.
