Should I get a Glock 31 or a Taurus 45 calibur

2007-11-14 10:49:53 · 11 answers · asked by Anonymous in Sports Outdoor Recreation Hunting

Our local PD uses the Glock 31, and I want to buy one so I can practice shooting that way when I apply Ill be familair with the weapon already, but they are quite exspensive.

I want to get something similar that is affordable and will be good for training.

If I understood your question, you weren't asking for what kind of handgun, but rather what kind of handgun that was similar to the Glock but less expensive. If that is the case I like the Ruger P95 in Double action only.

I have fired thousands of rounds now through mine and love it. The feel isn't too much different from the Glock and it has a decocker not a safety, but very easy to operate and pretty accurate. A good value for the money in my opinion if you aren't getting the Glock. Springfield as mentioned is another option too.

Good shooting no matter what weapon you choose!

I would go with a glock. I own a glock 22, a .40 cal and I love it. I am a deputy sheriff and that is what most of us carry. The rest carry the glock 31 or Springfield 1911. They are very reliable, easy to clean, and their is allot of accessories for them. I have seen one get ran over by a car and just came our with a scratch and nothing more.

Plus if every one else is using them that is a big advantage in a fire fight if you run out of ammo. Just barrow a mag from your partner.

Secondly you need to check with CLET, Counsel of Law-enforcement Education and Training, to see if they reconise a Taurus fire arm. If they do not you will not be able to use it on the force. A Taurus revolver is good but I'm kinda leery of their semi-autos.

Get the Glock Model 31. Don't bother with the 'C' model as I doubt your police department will allow you to carry it. Night sights are a good option. NOTE: The .357 Sig is as good a stopper as the .45 acp and better against barriers such as car glass and sheet metal. This is why a lot of agencies have gone over to Sig caliber over the old .45 acp. AND the .357 Sig ammo is NOT going to be cheaper than the .45 acp ammo, but it still won't put you in the poor house.

Best.

ADDENDUM: What's your obsession with 'gay-gay-gay?' Get with the program Kolin G. Many police departments won't let you carry a 1911 because it is a single action (on the first shot) and Ruger has not made the Security Six in a year of Sundays!

I vote for a Glock.
Cheap...No
Dependable...Yes
I carry a Glock Model 22 in 40 cal, never had a minutes trouble with it, BUT a Glock is not for somebody that has no or little experience with handguns ( no external safeties )
I would suggest finding somebody with the different guns you're interested in and ask them if they would let you shoot them to decide which one you like the best.

I do not like Glock. I would go with the Taurus...But before you buy one of those look at Springfield Armory XD. It is similar to the Glock, but better safeties, and over feel...

I'd go with Glock. IIRC its a .357. While it doesn't have the raw stopping power of the .45 it will be easier to shoot, have less recoil and the ammo is cheaper

I've never owned a hand gun that wasn't a Glock.....so I vote for the Glock.
