I have read where it has stopped many crimes as the criminals don't know if you have on and move on. Do you feel it's a good law?

If I get more than twenty answers I will let it go into the 'comunity" deal to pick a best answer, so go back to the questions you have answered and when this one has the "in voting" by it you can open it up and vote for your answer or someone elses. Your avatar will not be there, it will list the answers as 1, 2.... but you can vote on it. Please do as normally only one or two vote in the community voting.

Indiana, I've held a CCW permit for the last 31 years. I've only had to pull my gun twice in all that time.
The 1st time a man tried to break the door down to my motel room twice. I unlocked the door for him the 2nd time, he decided he didn't want in as bad as he thought he did. Of course he was staring down the barrel of a 44 Mag.
The second time was about 3 weeks later. Same motel!!
Two men knocked on my door, I asked them what they wanted through the door. One accused me of having his wife in the room with me. ( I'm a married man so obviously I didn't ) and told him so. They argued with me for about 5 minutes through the door and wouldn't go away. I kept telling him I was alone and to go away. He just wouldn't take no for an answer and wanted to check my room for himself.
I finally told him that they could come in and check. I unlocked the door quietly and sat down in a chair in the corner of the room with a S&W 9MM semi-auto ( 16 rounds ) I told them to come in.
They entered the room, I stopped them and told them both that if they so much as sneezed I would shoot both of them.
Would you believe they had the balls to go ahead and look!!
They left quietly and that's the last I ever saw of them. I think that they were really going to try to rob me.
A good law.....YES!!!!!!

I live in Illinois, and am a legal gun owner. Though my state does not have a carry law, I definitely feel that a carry law is a good law. My personal belief is that if the criminals out there knew that people were able to carry weapons to protect themselves, many of these criminals would think twice before they attempted anything. I don't believe the statements about how guns could be used in road-rage, or accidentally go off and injure someone. These are no different than any other thing out there now. You can loose control of your car and kill someone, but cars are still allowed.

Washington State, and yes I do have a CCPand feel that it is the biggest deterent to crime there is. The only time interesting story I had with has nothing to do with any crime though. I was following behind a pickup when a herd of elk decided that it would be a good time to cross the road. The truck hit one of them and smashed into the guard rail. The truck was smashed up pretty good and the elk busted both legs and crippled it, it was thrashing around pretty good, so I finished it off with a head shot. I didn't have an elk tag that year so I couldn't keep it, darn it! Other than that, I have never needed it. It really pissed me off because I blanked on the two times I went elk hunting and have always wanted to get one, and here is a whole freakin herd of the darn things committing suicide by crossing the highway of all times during elk season!!

The only story I have is that the bobbo342 law was just passed in Cook County, Illinois, the new law bans making sarcastic remarks about the Cook County gun control laws. Enforcement will handled by Jesse Jackson.

Wyoming. Some years ago my former wife hauled some horses back east. On her way back she stopped at a rest area. It was about 2 in the morning and she wanted to freshen up and continue to drive. She took her Ruger SP101, loaded with .38 cal., 125 gr. jacketed hollow points, into the restroom with her. After finishing she walked out to return to the truck. She told me she heard footsteps approaching her from the rear but before she could turn she was shoved to the ground and her satchel yanked from her arm. The two attackers then fled. My EX, now thoroughly pissed, got up back to her knees, and saw that the two men had realized the satchel contained nothing but toiletries. They started walking back to her. She told me she leveled the revolver and cranked off two rounds. My EX, without her glasses (which were knocked off), is pretty handicapped. So she missed. She told me the last she heard and saw of these two were, "holy sh%t" and the patter of running feet.

Yep, she and I are real believers in the concealed carry law.

Unfortunately I live in IL so I have not stories...But I enjoyed the once thus far and look forward to reading the others. Have a star...
Not only do I live in IL but Cook County. If I even think about firearms here they make a law for it and I will have Jessie Jackson picketing my door.... We have had so many gun laws and what do you know we still have murders in Chicago. "It has been determined the shooting was gang related." DUH!!!! With what...oh yeah an illegal handgun used by an underaged teen....
Oh well....Safe shooting folks...

Being in a state which has right to carry laws, we can legally carry openly.

So prior to obtaining my CWP I used to carry openly for all to see. Most people don't think much of it. But Japanese tourist don't know what to think of it, they just point and start rattling off words that I don't understand. That's when I decided it was time to get my permit.

And yes, it's a great law. I feel sorry for all those who live in places like the People's Republic of California.

Maine...I have a cwp, as required by Maine law. Don't have a story, and hope I never do, but knowing that I have my gun by my side is comforting to me, as I am not a young guy any more and you never know in this day and age when you will need it. It's an insurance that I hope I'll never need, but it is there if I do need it.

I think you have to get a permit, where I live. you have to go thru the sheriff's dept, and go to classes. and then they give you a permit. a good law yes, especially if you don't have alot of neighbors. nutty people are everywhere, and they seem to prey on people who live in the outback. Haven't heard of any trouble. occasionally someone a parole, will get p/u by the sheriffs, for a parole with a hand gun. but people need to be aware of home invasion's etc.
