I am looking at two models of a bolt action 30-06.

Savage Model 111G – with AccuTrigger (30-06)

and

Remington Model 700 SPS (30-06)

Both rifles are pretty similar in price. Just want to know which I should buy and why...

Thanks!

Go with the Remington 700 SPS over the Savage 111G. There is a real noticeable difference in quality and performance. Go to your local Gun Shop or Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Dick's Sporting Goods, or Sports Authority and compare these two rifles side by side. You will see exactly what I am talking about........

The fact that there are more Remington Model 700's in use to hunt in the US with than any 3 other brand/model should tell you something. Go with the Remington and you will be happy, and if you want a better trigger, save up and get a Timney. This combo is impossible to beat.

Both rifles are a great choice. I am more parcel to the Rem. 700 myself. They both have their own. I don't own either one of them but I am going to get a 700. I have some military experience with the 700. The US Army and Marines have used this model for a long time and it has proved itself time after time. They still use it today but are switching over to a semi-auto that is on a M16 stile frame.

One thing about the savage is that if you want to buy a different cal. rifle all you have to do is buy a barrel that fits the same action as the 111g. They have a lock nut & all you have to do Is measure the head space, set your lock nut, & screw it on. It saves alot of money.

I like the acton that a 700 has. Its alot smother but the triger macenism of the savage is better. If you know a good gun smith they can adjust the triger for your likens. Cant go rong with eater.

Get the Savage, I have shot both and bought the Savage with the accu trigger..... the Remingtons action is cheap feeling and not smooth at all..... my friend bought a 270....get the Savage it is a better rifle especially with the accu trigger and it has a very smooth and solid action.

Go w/the Remington over the Savage. But you might also want to check out the Weatherby Vanguard and the Tikka T3. They are in the same price range and are better riffles.

I have a savage 111 in .270. I think it is very accurate and dependable. Remmington still seems a bit better though...
