To be truthful with you it depends on want you want to do with it. The desert eagle has a more impressive look. Shoots and preforms well. Hate to have a jam up though. Very expensive to end up beat and scratched from trying to fix a jam. For some reason those kind of fire arms always do that.
The M9 is a little better on serviceability. easier to field strip to clean, replace parts if need be, and a little more rugged. It's a little less pricey too.
They both shoot just as accurate and have great craftsmanship.

I own a Desert Eagle 50 AE and a few Beretta M9s. I would have to say dont WASTE your time with a Desert Eagle. They jam often, eject casings towards the shooter, and ammo can be hard to find let alone the cost expensive too. That Desert Eagle ran me around $1,000.00 and a .44 magnum Super Redhawk that costs $575.00 out performs it and the .44 magnum does more damage to the target.
For a carry and target shooting pistol the M9 wins easily since 9mm luger rounds can be found most places where ammo is sold. Since I get more of my moneys worth out of my M9's than the Desert Eagle I would have to say the M9 is the better pistol for the money.

The M9 by far. The M9 is a multi purpose pistol that can be used for concealed carry, affordable target shooting, the 9mm round is easier to control, and it's stopping power isnt bad (especially with +p JHP ammo.) The desert eagle is nothing but a show gun. No one would actually consider using a desert eagle for anything besides target practice and to look at.

Better for what? The Beretta 92 series are reliable combat pistols. I have owned two of them, and I never had a malfunction even after burying the pistol in wet sand. For combat and self-defense, the M9 is very good. The Desert Eagle is much too big to be handy in combat. Some actors use them in movies, but that is just fantasy. Such a huge and powerful pistol is for hunting, not combat. If a lion charges you, you are better off with a .50 AE Desert Eagle than a 9mm Luger Beretta 92, but if you are having a gunfight with humans, the Beretta is better. Choose according to your priorities.

Depends. Given the choice I would take the M9. The 9mm is a better defensive weapon in the M9 than anything in the Desert Eagle.
If you are looking at hunting, then the desert Eagel in the .44 and .50AE is the way to go. Personally I rather have a redhawk of super redhawk for hunting than any DE.

The switch from the M1911 .45 cal was for a variety of reasons, but two stand out. - the 9mm Beretta is a standard NATO weapons caliber - the 9mm Beretta actually outperformed the M1911 in tests of ballistic performance (I had a hard time believing that until I got face to face with someone who was part of the evaluation team) What we still know is that despite its penetration capabilities, the 9mm family does not have the knock down power of the .45. We're being reminded on an almost daily basis in the Middle East why the Philippines Insurrection demonstrated a need for the M1911. Don't know who convinced you we used to issue the Desert Eagle, but they were misinformed. Which is not to say the Eagle series is not a desirable handgun for military or police organizations.

Depends on what your intended purpose for the gun is. The Beretta is way more of a utility gun than the desert eagle.

All the wannabes are going to say desert eagle. People who know firearms will say the Beretta. The desert eagle is a problem waiting to happen, it's over engineered and downright clumsy to operate. The Beretta has better reliability and ergonomics than the desert eagle ever thought about. I own 3 Berettas, a 92F,92FS & a 96G. I don;t own, nor will I ever own a desert eagle.
