old fuzz is absolutely correct. You might not need a permit but you better have a REAL legitimate LEGAL reason to carry a loaded Shotgun in ANY public area. Having the right to own a Shotgun doesn't give anyone the right to put innocent people at risk of physical or bodily harm. You will in fact get your foolish butt arrested, and charged with criminal charges, and prosecuted......and rightfully and legally so. Don't fool yourself for a second to think otherwise.....

I never saw a gun wearing shoes.
If you meant shotgun, most states don't require a permit for any sporting arm, be it shotgun, rifle or pistol. That isn't to say you can carry a gun through the middle of a city, however. You have to be somewhat sensible about these things, and remember the rules of gun safety. When you keep in mind that all guns are presumed to be loaded and you shouldn't point it towards anything you don't want a hole in, toting one in a densely populated area would be considered a menace.

You plan on walking down Main Street toting a shotgun??

You will be arrested. No cop is going to sit in his patrol car and watch such an obvious threat to the community wander down the street. While you might not be charged with a weapons violation, you can count on a Disorderly Conduct charge just to get you and your shotgun off the street.

Whats a shod gun?

And my question is, why not? Screw permits...you don't need one for the 1st Amendment, why do you need permission to exercise your God-given 2nd Amendment right?

The above answers are correct. I just wanted to add that they do have a minimum barrel length, to prevent sawed-offs. That way you are visible with it, so you can be stopped from running around town with it.
