My parents are having Christmas at their house and my Dad wants everyone to come prepared to relate their favorite Jesus story (I know, I already gave him crap for it--he finds the situation humorous). Anyway, I figure I can find some value in one of the stories, even if they are fiction. I just need to find one I can live with.

Helpful answers only please, I've heard all the funny ones.

I have always balked a bit at the notion of wearing as jewellery the symbol of torture that the cross depicts.

If Jesus had been born at a different time, would you wear a hangman's noose, or a guillotine, or how about the method employed in Eastern Europe at one point? A long stake or shaft through the anus and through the intestines to the diaphragm muscle, and into the heart? Do you see that being put on the top of steeples as a symbol of faith?

how do i exactly deal with people like her? she says bad things about the missionaries, and about the church. i believe she knows that i am a member of the church as she has seen me before with other fellow saints who she once knew, but she acts nice towards me, which is a bit odd. from what i have heard from members, she used to attend sacrament meetings before, and left because she wasn't given a calling (she always wanted to be a choir soloist). but she wasn't even baptised! and now she acts really nice and all, giving nice little presents to my mum (who's not a member of the church).

If you could have met Jesus, what do you think he would have been like? Do you think that he would have dscriminated people because of their sexual orientation, or skin color, or anything else? Do you think he would want to kill people who did wrong things? Would he have said that only certain people could preach the word of God, or forgive your sins?

"I have something to say to the religionist who feels atheists never say anything positive: You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its own sake. You are not second-class in the universe, deriving meaning and purpose from some other mind. You are not inherently evil—you are inherently human, possessing the positive rational potential to help make this a world of morality, peace and joy. Trust yourself."

-Dan Barker.

What's so bad about believing in yourself? What's so wrong about giving into your desires (so long as they don't hurt others)? What's so shameful about sex before marriage or material possessions? What's so bad about having pride or envy or lust or occasionally glottony and sloth? And heck, even occasionally feeling wrath in your lifetime is good for your mental health.

WHY would you want to believe in a God when you can believe in YOURSELF?

Genesis 1 : 10 -
And " God " called the dry land " Earth " and the gathering together of the waters " Seas " .....
Is the earth called earth ? are the seas called seas...
Yes they are .... I've heard hundreds of people on R & S, say the Bible is a fairy tale and holds no " Truth "....
Give me a legit reference of where we got these names from if not from " The Lord " ..and His word..
Someone very well could have named the other celestial bodies that's not my question , but who specifically named these two mentioned...
I'm very curious.....As for me I believe God named them and I know this statement from Genesis is true ..But I want to know the other side of the spectrum as viewed by others..Shouldn't we try to understand each other....Yes we should ...If this statement from " God " is not truth then I would like to see " proof "..
And don't label me religious , you don't know me ..As I don't know you....This is an easy question? Insults are very hilarious but not legit answeres...
