I'm in student congress, and I'm doing a bill that prevents religion in public schools like dress codes; becasue here in Idaho, there are a lot of mormons and my school's dress code I fear is part ofthe mormon belief so if you can help me out thanks.

Its not that its advancing or that I fear someone else's religion becasue I respect everyones belief its that my high school is more about one religion and I know seperates from the gangs but what I'm trying to explain is my high school won't let you express yourself freely because its inmodest and doesn't obey what the Book of Mormon states then I'm not trying to say lets all look slutty and gross ofcourse you have to look neat and cover up abit but when you say or wear something that isn't what the people in my school wear you get judged thats what i was getting at.

The non-establishment clause of the United States Constitution.
While it should NOT prevent a school from teaching *ABOUT* the world's religions, it should prevent a public school from teaching one religion.
The school is a government agency - and as such, it is unconstitutional for the school, as a representative of the government, to teach students to adhere to any particular faith. However, the school should also NOT PREVENT the students from practicing their own faith.

You fear someone else's religion or you want ALL religion kept out of school? There isn't a national law that prevents religion being taught in school - there's the Separation of Church and State which has been used to keep religious instruction out of public schools. Try using that.
I'm curious though - how is a dress code advancing the Mormon religion?
Edit: Okay, I get where you're coming from. You can let it go and focus on other, perhaps more important stuff. Or make a stand - what you're wanting is known as Freedom of Expression. If you can show that you aren't advocating skirts two inches below the underwear line or blouses cut down to the naval, you might get somewhere with it. Point out that there is an area between reasonable and obscene and that's what you're asking for, a little freedom without crossing lines. That clothing shouldn't be based on what one church considers proper only.
Hope that helps

Dress code is not part of the Mormon belief. Dress codes prevent fights between the have and the have nots when it comes to clothing. Also it eliminates "gang" color problems.
A "dress code" also helps with when you go and look for a job and get into a work place. Most Jobs have a dress code of some sorts. Are you going to say all businesses are run by Mormons?

The U.S. Constitution includes what's referred to as the Establishment Clause, which prevents the government or any public official or agency from establishing or interfering with any religion. However, dress codes and uniforms at schools are generally recognized and accepted as school policies that do not violate the Establishment Clause, unless the code requires (or forbids) the students to wear certain religious symbols at the exclusion of others.

I was taking a class that in the text that you can explain about different religions and you can compare what the bible says with evolution, but you can not promote any one religion. It falls under the seperation of state and church.

There shouldn't be a law that prevents teaching of religion. I had a great Religious Studies class in college about "alternative" religions (mostly what are generally called "cults"). Ignorance is for the ignorant.
Now...teaching that any given religion IS TRUE...that's what should be outlawed. Can't help you with any given law, though; don't know enough about it...
