Let us be diligent to Obey Him

Christ is Coming Again!
Let us be diligent then to Obey Him

Before I was afflicted I went astray;
but now I keep thy word.

Thou art good and doest good;
teach me thy statutes.

It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn thy statutes.

I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right,
and that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.

Let thy steadfast love be ready to comfort me
according to thy promise to thy servant.

Psalm 119:67,68,71,75, 76 RSV

_____________

And if they are bound in fetters,
And are caught in the cords of affliction,

Then He declares to them their work
And their transgressions, that they
have magnified themselves.

He opens their ear to instruction,
And commands that they return from evil.

Job 36:8-10 NASB

I just started reading the Bible and I'm already having difficulty reasoning with it. I am not an atheist but am agnostic. So my question is as follows: If God created all things good, why is there a Tree of knowledge of good and evil? Why a serpent? According to my understanding so far, God created us without the power to reason, so he created us knowing the it was fully possible that Adam and Eve might eat from the tree....right or wrong? if God is all thats God and represents love....why curse us when we are his creation? I have a lot more questions but I'm not going to go on for now. Any input on this topic is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who answer.

In all arguments where a Christian is asked about Science, he quotes some phrase from his BOOK.

It's acceptable when the book is infallible and has never been proven wrong - but how do they still act this way when...

1. The book says that the earth is flat - and we know the Earth is round.
2. The book says that God made Adam and Eve ... then goes on to oppose incest. If both are true, they should stop having $ex.
3. The book says that Christ was God and that Judas betrayed Christ. If Christ is God, how did he make this mistake of having Judas in the team. Why did he not protect Judas when he was falling?
4. They say that the Devil is responsible for wooing believers to do wrong. Why does a living God allow this?

I do not deny that there is much wisdom in the Bible and lots to learn from the life of Christ. But refusing to see beyond that may be a bit too much. Isn't this the reason for most of the discord today?

Isn't that how a 'fanatic' is defined?

I am an American living in Germany, and in my German language class, a girl gave me a book that is in English. When I took it home, I realized it is material from Jehovah´s Witnesses, and I am Methodist.

How do I return it to her without offending her? I don´t believe as they do, and do not want to be disrespectful by returning it to her.

No offence intended; it's just that as a concept, it's totally alien to my own faith, Judaism. Just am interested to know how people who are not Christians view the idea of 'original sin'.

And please: no quoting the bible!

Thanks for your time in answering :)

Many people believe that there was a master creator aka God. If God was an actual being then given the longevity of the universe and the natural order that all living things die, then would it be possible that the creator (God) is now deceased/extint? Could that be why we can't get in touch with him or find evidence that he is existant?

For real...her mom was set to release a parenting book that was put on hold, her relationship with nickelodeon has been hurt, and she may not have a future in the spotlight since people don't want pregnant teenagers as their role models.

Wouldn't she have been better off getting an abortion and not telling anyone?

There are things that are happening at the Assisted Living facility where I work, where people prefer to pass over enstead of die in a hospital. Shadows walking down the hall and observed by staff (who promptly quit!) and residents who claim someone walked into there room, in the middle of the night to ask if they were OK and having the voice of a staff member they trust who isn't even working that night. Phones ringing from rooms with no one there to set off the guardian for help. I don't want to be creepy, I am a trained professional working in a facility and all the nurses and other staff have felt the movement of the disembodied. Sometimes I have questions of what is going on. I don't necessarily want ghost busters to come in. The presence isn't menacing, just obvious and somewhat eerie. I would rather have spirits in my facility than a living madman with a weapon.

Seems kinda strange to me that God will only accept me if I, or someone on my behalf, offers him a sacrifice to attone for my sins.

This is especially so when I think of so many enlightened Eastern cultures where 'blood sacrifices' of any kind are considered an abbomonation.

Isn't doing good deeds and asking for forgiveness from God- and from God alone: my creator, the omniscient, the all-knowing, all forgiving, most merciful- enough? My thought was that having an enlightened spirit with good deeds is more valuable to God than any form of 'blood sacrifice', which from my reading of Leviticus 5:11-13 says that blood isn't even necessary even during the sacrificing olden-days.
