I can find several references to it, but for the most part it's saying "Don't have sex. If you HAVE to, do it inside a marriage, but it's best not to."
(Rom. 1:27, 1 Cor. 7: 5, 29)

And other references (Mark 12:25) to there being no sex in Heaven (is the ideal life the chaste one then?).

No where can I find a passage to support a statement that contemporary Christians could use to say what I've often heard that "Sex (between married man and woman) is meant to be enjoyed."

At best, it is seemed to be distasteful in the extreme, but if one cannot control ones baser desires, if you absolutely HAVE to, do so in marriage (1 Cor.).

That's probably the most depressing thing I've ever heard. What am I missing? Is there some passage that extols the virtues of sex? The best I've found is that Heb. 13:4, which says not to commit adultery, sort of saying the above, that marital sex would not be Judged. Is that the best they can do?

If your agnostic, atheist, religious or somewhere in-between, when was the last time you questioned what you believed in and why? What made you challenge your own thoughts?

If it has been a really long time, why do you not think to ever question or challenge this, even if it’s just to confirm your beliefs even further?

Now before you type in "Faith always leads to works of love," let's try to get St. Paul's point by gathering the context:

St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13: "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a FAITH THAT CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing."

"A faith that can move mountains" refers to one of Jesus' favorite figures (see Matt 17:20 and 21:21). That would obviously be great faith, but St. Paul is saying you could have great faith and be "nothing." You might prophesy and drive out demons in Jesus' name, which are great works of faith, but be turned away from heaven (see Matt 7:21-23).

This story tells how Army Sp. Jeremy Hall, an Atheist, is suing the Secy. of Defense and a Major Wellborn alleging "widespread violations of religious freedom".

I am a Christian, but agree with Hall if what he alleges took place then there was a violation indeed (who the heck would put Ann Coulter quotes anywhere? The woman is odd lol). But "widespread"? I know, everyone from the defense side of the story to the press will use the most damming powerful words they can to make the most of the case.

I also see the point of Hall that his "religion" is discriminated against; if he were truly threatened with military action for holding meetings of Atheists then that is wrong.

But ... is taking all religious symbols off military equipment (placed by the soldiers running the thing) going too far in the other direction? Why is it always either/or?

What do you think? Is there a happy middle for us?

So is it not terribly pompous to then forgive us those sins that were his fault anyway?? How do you explain that? He made us sinful did he not? Is it not all his fault?

Again, I see all kinds of weird and fun answers to posed questions and leads me to ask this one.
A day for us is a 24 hour period. Throughout Scripture, God speaks of days, weeks, months and years. Moses - 40 years.....; King Hezekiah - additional 15 years........, Joshua - one day......., Jericho - 7 days.......
Do you not think that God KNOWS what a day is? God designed TIME and one second is one second. Show me where this is evolving into something else or changed from, ahh....I can't grasp the concept.
I don't understand where you come from where you think the earth used to spin faster - back then.
I don't understand where you think one day was one year - back then.
I don't understand where you think that God does not know what He is doing.
I need some enlightenment on this.

*read extra details before you answer*

It seems like if it was God's will for a certain thing to happen, you wouldn't be able to change it no matter how much you prayed about it. For example, someone could be dying of cancer and everyone they knew could be praying for them and they could still die. Or someone else could be suffering from the same disease and have no one praying for them and they could survive. Whenever something bad happens I always hear people say it was God's will for it to happen, so when something good happens, do you think it was also just God's will, and if so, wouldn't it have happened whether anyone prayed about it or not? If you do believe God answers prayers, why do you believe your prayers had an effect, rather than thinking that it would have happened anyway?

I have been reading many answers to atheistic questions and the word "satan" comes into the picture a lot. If you have no "belief" in God, then the entire spiritual, scriptural side of deity shoul be irrelevant to you. Where are you coming from that you seem to know so much about satan? satan only comes from scripture as the antithesis of God.
As another arguement - how is it that so many atheists know so much about God?

Every year we have a christian New years eve party. We have all the families and kids over at the house. At 12:00 we "toast" in the new year. For something different, what about having communion? Our pastor is here. He could do it for us. We would be starting the new year with Christ.

Its impossible to live the length of time that the bible says people lived between Adam and Eve and Noah. They were still humans. I've heard some religionists say they lived longer then because they didn't have disease back then but the bible never says that and no evidence that was true. Anyway, even without disease the joints wear out quickly after about a 100. No way the human body could last 500+ years. So isn't this more proof the bible is not literal? History shows that average human lifespans rarely exceeded 40-50 years before modern medicine and sanitary conditions. Life was hard back then. Frequent wars too. Seems totally impossible.

I believe these dominations, along with most others, have HIGHLY sexist values.

Obviously not to the extent of faiths such as Islam, but I still believe you can find high-profile examples of sexism within Western religion. What do YOU think?

...please be ready to defend your point as I'm coming at you with questions such as:

What is the ratio of women to men amongst religious leaders?
Have you ever heard of an esteemed "Archbishop-ess"?
Or a "Pope-ess"?

Not to mention the oppressive idealisms such as making it a woman's responsibility to remain "pure" until wedlock...

....BUT. I could very well be wrong... So answers are appreciated.

I am amazed by the answers given around questions such as these. Could someone please educate me on this "evolution" of the fly? What did it "evolve from? Please do not give your opinion but some kind of proof. Any kind of proof.
Do not get your answer mixed up with Natural Selection.
I worked with fruit flies for over ten years and we could never get anything but a fly from all the research. 1000 different kinds of flies. All flies.
Please show me this evolution everyone keeps talking about.

For sure there are some beautiful things in life, I'm not so jaded to believe it's all bad. But for every smile and happy life story, there are at least equivalent sad ones. For every safe journey, there's a bomb going off somewhere, for every healthy baby, there's a dude in some alley about to pull the trigger. The world is a big, big place and murder, corruption, unfairness, and greed happen every day along with the rest. My question is, is God responsible for all this, too? Did God make it so one person is born with a disability, while another is blissfully unafflicted? Is he the one who allows one guy to inherit a million bucks, and another to struggle all his life for a decent meal? Or is it some one else? something else?
And even if so, why would God allow that? Unless he wanted it? And then, why the heck would he want it if it didn't have to be that way?
I'm just .. really curious to see what you have to say about this.

why do muslims think that only allah can make a fly?

we can make a sheep and a pig. if that is the test as to what a god is, then it's not very hard to pass.

it also proves the quran wrong, so you muslims can stop being so fanatic over it.

Can anyone guess why I'm leaving this section of Yahoo for good?

This may sound stereotypical, but since I've been here, I've noticed that people demand answers and when they get them, they either completely ignore the answer or acknowledge it and then start on something else. No matter what Muslims say or do, it's never good enough for those who only have hatred in their hearts. They trust the news as if it was a lifeline and ignore the people around them. Instead of using their minds they allow a TV to dictate how they feel. So, I am leaving this section for good. It's just not worth the time and effort when I know that it won't make a single difference. I have better things to do than to seek approval or acknowledgment from people who see individuals on the news as representative of a group.

I don't think many people on this site have ever experienced the love of family or a normal life. I thank God everyday that I have so much love in my life. It's sad some don't.

I have come across the following stance from gospel of Judas.

"Kingdom of god is spread out on this world. Those who have eyes can see it."

I liked these very much and it is in tune with other gnostic religions. What is your opinion about these verses?
