Again, I see all kinds of weird and fun answers to posed questions and leads me to ask this one.
A day for us is a 24 hour period. Throughout Scripture, God speaks of days, weeks, months and years. Moses - 40 years.....; King Hezekiah - additional 15 years........, Joshua - one day......., Jericho - 7 days.......
Do you not think that God KNOWS what a day is? God designed TIME and one second is one second. Show me where this is evolving into something else or changed from, ahh....I can't grasp the concept.
I don't understand where you come from where you think the earth used to spin faster - back then.
I don't understand where you think one day was one year - back then.
I don't understand where you think that God does not know what He is doing.
I need some enlightenment on this.

There isn't any such thing as a "god", and no-one "designed time".
Glad to have been able to help you out here. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Actually God didn't invent the many ways we "keep time".
Until the invention of things like clocks people sort of estimated the passage of time, i.e instead of saying "I'll be back in 15 minutes" you would have to say "I'll be back in the time it takes Jimmy to walk to the creek" or something like that. The first people didn't think of a day as being 24 hours-that's an artificial construct.
Sometimes words are used to describe different periods of time like a day from sunset to sunset or a period of time. See
2 Peter 3:8 where a day is like a thousand years, or 2 Cor 6:2
where the day of salvation is not a 24 hour day.
Words often mean different things in different context. The context determined the true meaning of a word.
Don't be so literal minded or your find yourself creating problems where there are none.

The Bible says that 1000 years is as a day to God. So if 1000 years is a day, then 40 years is nothing compared to that. Most of the time though, the Jewish term for day was a set term for the completion of an event. Like you notice that on the 7th day in genesis they never describe a morning and evening like they did for the other ones. It's symbolism. The Bible also says that when the sun goes down, that's then end of the day. When it comes up, that's the beginning. So when you see these events happening, God is trying to get across the totality of that single event. If you read further into this, you'll come across parts where Joshua and Moses both stopped the sun from dropping, thus the day did not end. Don't think as "time" or "day" from a static, set point of view. Think of it more like an ocean that while there is a down and up, you are still free to move from side to side, from a Biblical standpoint.

a sidereal day is, 23 hours and 56 minutes. That means the amount of time the earth takes to rotate one full turn. A solar day describes the action in relation to the sun, because the earth is moving around the sun at the same time as rotating on it's own axis.
If anything in the past a day would have been shorter, and days are getting gradually longer as the earths rotation gradually slows down, very very gradually.

Actually, the people in Mesopotamia invented/discovered that there are 60 minutes in an hour, and that there are 24 hours in a day, so really, don't give the credit to your false god. The Mesopotamians did a lot.

Don't spend so much time wondering that you forget to live; you will never get this hour, minute , second again; spend it wisely; if these things wouldn't be important on your last day of life then they are not important now; spend your time as you would if you valued time as priceless which it is

a single rotation of the earth, generally accepted as approximately 24 hours.
(this can differ depending on whether you are thinking solar or sidereal)
biblical references are deliberately obscure so as to keep us guessing.......
also, earth's spin will NOT have changed appreciably over a few thousand years.
