Shouldn't there be more social responsiblity in a religion than that kind of attitude? Why would xians think their "sins" only affected THEM?

How do you explain this 11th century quote from the sainted Pope Gregory VII:

"You and We are bound, therefore, by this charity
peculiar among us--compared to the remainder of
the nations--that we believe in and profess the one God,
although in a different way, Who we praise and
venerate daily as Creator of the ages and Ruler of
the same world."

(Pope St. Gregory VII, Ep. 21, to Anzir, King of Mauritania; Patrologia Latina 148, col. 451A)

In another thread today, someone was complaining about being aggressively cut off by a "<><" festooned minivan, and one of the responders said, and this is quoted:

"Don't get your panties all in a bunch! If they are truly Christians, then it's between them and Jesus.

Maybe they have repented by now."

Excuuuuuse me, but WTF? No, it was NOT between "them and Jesus" . . . it was almost between them and HIS FRONT FENDER!

My real problem with this is that it's NOT an isolated attitude---I've seen identical sentiments expressed in other threads several times just today *alone.*

Does faith in Jesus mean you get to act like a smacktard, can't be called on your crap because it's "between you and Jesus," and escape all consequences or moral responsibility if you just "repent?" Is THAT what Christianity teaches?

Wow. No wonder it's popular. o_O

please help me understand this?
Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Is this Jehovah?
Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Is this him to?
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I [am] the first, and I [am] the last; and beside me [there is] no God.
This?

For the next 2 verses I have placed some of the words in bold please read this carefully, and think very precisely as to who this is.
Rev 1:17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I [am] he that LIVETH, and was DEAD; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
If you said it was Jehovah God you were right can you tell me when he was dead?
Look at the NWT its the same.

I love Jesus so Much. :) my God.

I am a christian.I respect GOD but i hate to go to any church. When i was younger, my parents used to take me to the church(ofcourse forcefully) and i used to think that once the father finishes reading the bible ,there will be no mass after that and i will be free. But now i have understood that fathers read the bible again and again.

It is not possible to follow all the instructions written in bible like dont look at someone elses wife.It is not possible for me.If she is beautiful then no one can stop me from looking at her. There are many instructions like it for ex-dont lie(i think this is also one of the ten commandments but not sure). But i lie everyday.

I honestly say that i dont know even a single pray but i think that if i want to make GOD happy then i should help the one who really needs help.Dont hurt anyones feelings etc etc.

Please tell me what to do.Please tell me how can i follow GODs path in humanly possible ways.

So...

mormon missionaries have been coming to my house for about a year, and we've been doing pretty great. We talk about everything and I know I'm going to get baptized and stuff.

The only thing is, what's the deal with the mormon underwear? The Elders haven't said anything about it, but i read it in my Understanding Mormonism book i bought before they started coming. I want to know... what's the deal with it? Please explain!

And please leave out all the BS about how mormon people are part of a cult. I just wanna know what's up with the underwear. Don't make it a big argument.

Thanks! :)

It seems within most people's minds that spiritual love is good on its own while physical love is not good.

Is that because spiritual love involves no real-life committment while physical love does?

Are we not human: both spiritual and physical.

Why do so many pay lip-service to the spiritual while devoting themselves to the physical?

Why do so many pay lip-service to the physical while devoting themselves to the spiritual?

Are we not both? Should not our love be both?

Everyone who is normal has a conscience. If a person feels no sense of quilt when he has tortured a little child, stolen money, or told a hideous lie about an innocent man or woman, that person may as well be called a moral inbecile. You out there are no moral imbecile, or you wouldn't be reading this question. So what kind of a conscience do you have? Is your conscience clear enough for a honest Prayer?

I remember about ten to fifteen years ago the atheist organization was planning on building their first church in California.

I always wondered what they were planning on doing there, I guess it would be like a union hall for the atheist organization.

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Death to Followers of Other Religions

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

Kill Nonbelievers

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Kill Followers of Other Religions.

1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)
The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
God Will Kill Ethiopia

"You Ethiopians will also be slaughtered by my sword," says the LORD. And the LORD will strike the lands of the north with his fist. He will destroy Assyria and make its great capital, Nineveh, a desolate wasteland, parched like a desert. The city that once was so proud will become a pasture for sheep and cattle. All sorts of wild animals will settle there. Owls of many kinds will live among the ruins of its palaces, hooting from the gaping windows. Rubble will block all the doorways, and the cedar paneling will lie open to the wind and weather. This is the fate of that boisterous city, once so secure. "In all the world there is no city as great as I," it boasted. But now, look how it has become an utter ruin, a place where animals live! Everyone passing that way will laugh in derision or shake a defiant fist. (Zephaniah 2:12-15 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
ofcourse these are all invalid because they are out of context
