Atheism is a way of saying I refuse to accept responsibility for anything I do or say or believe. As long as it has no rules or regulations I can do anything I want and don't have to be morally responsible. Now if I get caught and have to go to jail that is a whole new issue and I don't really want to deal with that because it wasn't my fault and I'll still be saying that 20 years from now at my parole hearing. An atheist in an organization would never work unless the head atheist could give something to other atheists that they don't already have. It wouldn't by intellect because that isn't one of their strong points. I'm not sure what an atheism strong point would be. That's something to think about.

Atheism is no more an organization than the belief in God is a religion. You can believe in God and not be a member of an organized religion. Same is true for atheism and organizations made up of atheists.

There are atheist organizations, but I don't really see the point. What, do we meet once a month and ceremonially agree that we still don't believe in God?
I can't help feeling that atheism is something people should arrive at on their own initiative, so I don't buy the "education" angle either.
As a self-professed atheist, I'm the first to admit that it's really only a moral reaction against theism. We haven't had to invent a specific word for people who disbelieve in leprechauns.

the government would never allow it. can you imagine the tax invoices for donating to an organisation such as atheism? the government would lose out big time. but with most religions there is a doctrine and a leader, so you have to find a system of beleife and principles that make the organisation look like it's doing good things for the comunity.

Neither. If a group of us get together based on non belief it would only serve to reinforce the theists' idea that atheism is a religion which is definitely not the case.

It isn't an organization. To be an organization we would have to be....well organized. There isn't a large group and there shouldn't be. The only reason we have any groups at all is defense against the religious.

United by common disbeliefs?
I'm not sure how you'd make an organization out of that.
Sometimes atheists join Unitarian Universalist churches because they like being part of a church community, and there are organizations that are atheist-friendly, like rationalists or something, but as a group...I don't think they have any particular organization.

Well, if it's organized. There are organizations dedicated to atheistic thought and philosophy, but being an atheist in and of itself doesn't make you part of an organization.

It could be if you desired it.
I do not think that atheism is automatically an organization or even organized for that matter.
