Shouldn't there be more social responsiblity in a religion than that kind of attitude? Why would xians think their "sins" only affected THEM?

Excellent question.

The web of humanity. The ripples of our actions ultimately effect all in ever more minute and subtle ways.

Religion abnegates personal responsibility as most followers seek to relegate all of the aforementioned to an elder who in kind passes it up till it sits with God. If errors occur, forgiveness is given without any thought being given to the effects to others.

It's the wide road religion offers contrary to what most Christians think.

All decisions you make wind up affecting others in one way or another. They also affect your relationship with yourself and Jesus, and often times affects the relationships between others and Jesus as a result of your impact on them.

I would suggest that perhaps what is meant by a comment such as that, that they are referring to the consequences of the sin. It is indeed between Jesus and the sinner as to what will happen as a result of that. It is just another way to say...you can hate the sin, but not the sinner. We are not allowed to judge one another. Only Jesus/God has that right.

They don't.

Christ told us that what we do to the least of these we do to Christ. What we do to each other we do to Christ.

When people judge a lot of emphasis is placed on the intent of the person involved in the crime.

Only Christ knows the intention so the real sin can only be between a person and the only one who can know the intention of the person's heart.

Some sins DO only effect ourselves. Sometimes there are other participants in it, but not all sins effect everyone around us.

It is a cop-out.

Josh "Bob, why the heck are you sleeping with his wife?"

Bob "Hey, it is between me and the Lord!"

And it happens all the time.
