"If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." -- Matthew 5:29-30

Is he really telling people to cut off their hands and pluck out their eyes? Was Jesus talking literally or was it a metaphor? If its a metaphor....a metaphor for what?

I was asked to say a few words at a neighbor's funeral today as he was a friend. All I could say was, "May you be in heaven 3 days before the devil knows you're dead!" A smile came over the faces of some of the people present. He kinda liked life and took it in stride. Was i right in saying that?

Don't you ever lie down at night and just think to yourself "well, why do i believe what i believe? Is believing something just because i was raised that way make any sense?"

Don't you EVER doubt some of these stories you believe?

Don't you see that what you accept as reality is on par with unicorns and faries?

How can someone tell you this grand story about this invisable being that rules the planet and so on, and not be skeptical at all?

Humans of today have evolved from homo-sapiens. If God created us in His image, that's exactly how God looks like! Now those of you who say that we've always looked like this and evolution is evil. Why is it that fossils of humans thousands and thousands of years way back doens't look like the modern human being? Ofcourse the classical christian answer would be, "Because Satan altered the fossils!" ROFLOL!

this is from? WHat can u conclude about this "religion" based on these following verses. No cheating! choww

Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you:

You shall not set up idols besides Him.

You shall honor your parents.

You shall not kill your unborn children from fear of poverty-We provide for you and for them.

You shall not commit gross sins, publicly or privately.

You shall not kill - GOD has made life sacred - except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand.

You shall not touch the orphans' money except in the most righteous manner, until they reach maturity.

You shall give full weight and full measure when you trade, equitably. We do not burden any soul beyond its means.

You shall be absolutely just when you bear witness, even against your relatives.

You shall fulfill your oaths to GOD. These are His commandments to you, that you may take heed.

can you commit the unpardonable sin unwilling fully....i mean you just commit it cause while you were reading the bible you read about the unpardonable sin and you read what the pharisees said and you remember it..and what they said got stuck to your head and couldn't get it out.....
now....what about that kind of situation?
is there forgiveness?

Christians don't(or don't want) to believe in evolution despite its overwhelming evidence. If every man came from Adam, then how is it that we have so many different races nowadays? Just look at the variation in skin color, hair color, bone structures and etc., (note that these differences are apparent right from birth). If evolution doesn't exist, then how would these differences be possible? People's skin color change when exposed to the sun, but note that africans are black since BIRTH! There is no way that Adam&Eve could co-exist with evolution. So how do you christians explain this? Noah's children who spread out came from the same parents so their skin color must've been the same. So how did the variations come about, if it weren't for evolution? Animals also show traces of evolution how they slowly adapt to their nature.

First of all I want to say that I am not attempting to "bash" either religion. Having been LDS/Mormon for 8 years, I know that one of the LDS/Mormon arguments is that the Book of Mormon has to be true because of how well it is written; that there is no way that Joseph Smith could have written it because he only had a third education. Listen to what another poster had to say about Muhammed.

When the Quran was revealed, the Arabic language was at its peak in richness of expression and literature. The Quran came and challenged the best Arabic literature and poetry of that time.

Prophet Mohammad , being illiterate, could not possibly have come up with something so miraculously immaculate that it even exceeded the best of poetry and Arabic literature at the time of the language's peak development.

"He , had no reason to come up with something like the Quran, and cause the entire society of Arabia to become his enemy. Why would he do something like that?"

More follows...

Yes she was Catholic - but I think people viewed her more of a person who loved her God and her neighbor.

Ok I was talking to some religious people and they were telllng me that the evil thoughts and temptations came from Satan. Ok this sounds all fine and dandy but I kept thinking about the story of Satan and how he was an angel at one time and how he was envious of gods power. So he was tempted into leading a revolt against god. Who put the evil thoughts and temptation into Satan's head? Did God do it?

Some one just asked the question "Why didn't Jesus write a gospel?"
A christian replied in part.
"Lol, so if someone doesn't write something by hand that means it didn't come from their mouth - atheist logic, gotta hate it, cuz it's dumbing down the world and destroying lives."

First off doesn't it seem that this person doesn't know the difference between writing and speaking?? Second does any one have a first hand account of atheist logic destroying lives? Secondly can't we all agree narrowing your views down to one straight line of thinking would be what is actually dumbing down the world?
Thridly, if you didn't read the original question there was nothing to say the asker was atheist. It I think would be a resonable question for even a christian to ask. So why jump down his throat and make yourself look bad?
Fourth, Why do so many christians seem unable to face agnostic or atheist questions with decent non scripture answers?
