I was raised believing that Jesus and the Christian religion was the correct one, went to sunday school as a little boy, then starting going to church in my teens and so on. But as long as I can remember, I wondered about all those other religions. They think they're right too. Eventually I realized that religions are man made. Most are early forms of government. Don't you think it's a bit suspicious that the gods of Arabic people look Arabic, the gods of China look Chinese, and so on? The Christian bible was written by men, and edited along the way for political reasons, and that's a fact. If your neighbor claimed to be writing another book for the bible today because an invisible man was talking to him, you'd think he's crazy, right?
So I became an Atheist. But after seeing the debates go back and forth, one thing hit me; just because all religions seem to be thought up by controlling people and contradict each other, that doesn't mean there is nothing out there. So now I'm an Agnostic. I think the existence of a god is unlikely, but I won't say with 100%, because I have no proof. I wasn't there when the universe was created, when the mechanics of string theory started working, or know where the matter and energy came from in the first place to fuel the big bang. I now classify Atheists in the same category as Theists, because both require an amount of faith. And Agnostic just tells it like it is by saying "I don't know, there's no proof either way". Some people call it fence sitting, or not having balls, but I think it's the politically correct stance. I don't claim to know what this possible god is like, what it's ideas of morals are, etc, and will side with the Atheists the second someone claims to. I simply think it's unlikely, but possible, and leave it at that.

First of all I was brought up in an area where most people are of the same faith. But my family wasn't very zealous, we went to church some but not every Sunday. Later I started to question my faith and eventually proclaimed an atheist mentality. After a few years and some tough lessons I started to see things differently. Several years passed and I studied science and religion extensively. I acquired a couple of degrees in philosophy and science as well. I have found a wonderful balance between the two. Spiritually speaking, I am eclectic regarding religion. However, I try to follow Christ's example in my daily life. Eastern philosophy and religion taught me the value of insight and reflection. I find that the answer is within me if I can focus on the question at hand. But I do an awful lot of reading too. I love science and physics, math, and heck everything...study all the time.
I don't know if that answers the question for you. Suffice it to say, no blind faith here.

Wow! what an excellent question!! Well, i belive the answer to that question is BOTH! We are all taught one way or another about religion. But as we get older we make a decision based on what we feel.
It hurts to see that some really believe that there is no higher power........which would mean that all we have to look to for guidance is other humans and whoa is THAT a scary thought!! As for me i didnt "choose" any religion! GOD CHOSE ME!!! (and it sounds like He's trying to choose you too!!)
There is nothing like the peace of God. Theres nothing to "prove" nothing to guess; no comparison; no statues; no words you cant pronounce (ha-ha) no idols to rub; no worries; no pressure; no condemnation; in reality its not even a religion to chose or 1/2 as deep as alot of people try to make it...........JUST PEACE once you accept His call!
Knowing that someone far above anything you can imagine is looking out for you! Even when you feel like you dont even deserve to be looked at......well at least i didnt think i did! But now that i have found the true love of God; NOTHING could ever compare!
JC, I pray you experience the same love and peace and accept His call because He is obviously on your mind/heart! I speak the peace of God over your life even now. Do your research; ask your peers; you may even have to run for a little while longer but i garuntee you - YOU WILL NEVER FIND A BETTER LOVE THAN THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST!! GOD IS LOVE - what more is there to teach!??
j.c.!!??? Hmm those are the initials of my best friend Jesus! ;0)
Sealed with the love of the Christ
-ME!

I started out with what I was taught, until I found conflicts. I started reading about every religion I could get my hands on. I now believe that if at it's core is unconditional love. It is a religion I can learn from. Currently I believe in Wicca, and the non-religions Christ Spirit. I have nothing against Christians personally, it's just they want to kill me is kinda problematic. Started out a Presbyterian.
Blessed Be

From the time I was really young I had questions I searched for answers.. When I found answers that were satisfactory to me and made sense to me I filed them away as portions of my beliefs.. After a while (16-18 years) I had a pretty well developed set of beliefs... I wasn't sure if anyone else had my set of beliefs so I started searching religions sort of like match the picture... did any religion have the same set of beliefs I had... Turns out no religion did however I found the term Atheist while searching... After research I realized I was Atheist meaning no matter what the rest of my beliefs were I didn't believe any deity existed, or would exist..
Atheists have only one common belief.. I.E. no deities.. All other beliefs vary from person to person...

I decided on my own. I realized when I was young that I didn't like being a Christian. I didn't feel right there. So many hypocrites went to church and then they look at me because I couldn't dress up all pretty like them. Now I have a religion that I feel totally comfortable in and they don't care what I wear.

I was raised thinking religion and spirituality were the same thing. Dogma of the church I suppose (no offense).? Everyone has a different story. I spent most of my life reaching out to religion when I was suppose to be reaching out to spirituality. So, I am finally feeling like I am getting further in dropping religion and getting deeper into my spirituality which is bringing me closer to my faith in God(s). Things are making more sense. So, I suppose I lean towards the Gnostic.

Well I was born into it but since my parents are pretty leniant and kind they let me do my own investigation and in the end it confirmed my faith even more. I think that's why I love my parents; they never forced Islam on me...but in the end that's why I love it even more. And NO one can deceive me or try to make some BS up about it without me having a logical response (lotsa Muslims give tradition as an explanation for religion. I dont listen to them though)
ANyway peace.

When I was eight years old, it became evident that the biblical tales could not be reconciled with science, and since science is obviously right (it works!), the bible had to go. Having spent many years since then looking for some evidence to support a theory of the existence of some sort of god, and having found nothing whatever, I'm an atheist.

I decided on my own that I was a Christian because I do believe that Jesus is the only way to slvation and eternal life. And I have alot of faith because I have personally seen His works in my life. But I didnt decide that off of anyone else because my parents believed in sub-divisions ect. I got the basic idea from them but I also saw things that they misinterpreted from the bible which limited them. People who focus on "religion" as simply a set of standards to live by miss the real points like walking in love, and instead get hung up on details like Amish not driving cars, Jehova's witnesses not celebrating their birthdays, some people justifying racial supremacy, and in my parents case, not allowed to wear make-up, or hair down ect... They do all those "richeous" things and some still arent simply walking in love. Watch out for signs of misinterpret scripture. Religion is man made because its focus is to "appear holy" to man or belong to a group, but true worship is the love and fear of God abd the belief in Jesus Christ. Good luck on your journey and i hope I helped.
