Is it a sin in the Christian faith to play god?

2007-07-10 18:33:25 · 17 answers · asked by Anonymous

We have bible studies and my Pastor is always telling us about a big movement for universal church. The big invisible body of believers.

We believe in Local church. We have authority over ourselves, and dont answer to a higher up. Our church is the body of Christ. Each member being a part of the body. Another local church is another body of Christ.

Just wondering how big it is, and how many people are believing it, and why.

What an awesome time to be alive! Do you see any prophesy being played out now? I know we do not know the day or hour but do you think the fig tree is in bloom? What say you, brothers and sisters in Christ?

"Italy - Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation."

Because it is possibly one of the few things that exist in this world today that actually bring peace to the world. (I beieve that the only reason that atheist continuoustly attack Christianity is basically because they know that with the right message they can easily be influenced by God. Comments Please!

I've already lost track of how many times the question was asked today about Pope Benedict's comments. It's nice for the anti-Catholics that we have only one "pastor" leading us here on earth. So they only have to ask a question about one person.

But there are 30,000+ other denominations. And in each of those churches there is a pastor. And the congregation in each church trusts that pastor to help them interpet Scripture, to guide them, etc. Each congregation thinks their church and pastor have the truth. I wonder which of the 30,000+ really does have "the truth", because each of those "truths" is a little different.

So let's find out the names of all those pastors and write a question about each one. We can question their teachings the way our Pope is questioned here ad nauseum.

Who wants to help me?

In an expanding universe, as galaxies move away from us, the light gets stretched out, and moves towards the red side of the color spectrum. The further out the galaxy, the more red shifted the light is. What scientists are now discovering when examing the red shifts, is that the earth must be near the center of the universe.

Maybe those religious scientist of long ago were right. Any thoughts?

You'd really have to talk to her to understand this question to its fullest extent. But its like she has been in a time capsule for the past 40 years and has not learned anything new.

Ok. So hi, my name is Phil.

In the 16th century, there was a man called Martin Luther. He challenged the Catholic church because they were doing evil things like scamming poor peasants with "indulgences".

That was eventually sorted out with the reformation and the formation of the Protestant church.

But a couple of days ago, the POPE (Yeah, the Hitler-youth one), decided that only the CATHOLIC church were really "churches". All others, including me, are "pale imitations", as so called in a sixteen page report about how Catholicism is the only REAL church.

So uhh, where did this come from?

Aren't we ALL the children of God?

Sure, we've had our century-long bloodbaths and wars, but aren't we both Christians?

Well, I thought that but apparently the POPE thinks otherwise.

So uhh,

What is to become of this? Is there going to be another civil war amongst Christianity?

Thoughts.... Opinions...?

Because evertime I go and do my shoping or pay my bills I cannot wait to get out of there and go home. I do not like going anywhere unless I have to. What I am trying to say is this, I have had enought of the world and it's evil ways, and whenever I go for a jog beer bottles are scattered everywhere, pornography magazines are on the path, rude truck drivers yell out stuff. in shopping centres people sometimes gives you rude stares,. lining up t pay your bills people cough and sneeze without covering thier mouths(how grouse) and many other things. So chrisitans are you getting sick of the rudness in this world, the lies, the moddiness of may people(I did not say all). People would seriously have to be blind not to see what is going on in this poluted world.

My sister sent me an email this morning about some kids she is teaching this week in Vacation Bilble School. These children are from 3 to 6 years of age.she said there were 2 little girls wrote her a note and told her to go to hell, and while they were having class they were disrupted and told her she was not their boss they could do what they wanted.
After class she told their parents and they acted like they were not concerned about it.What should she do ? my sister is a very loving person and this hurt her very much. She asked me for advice and I would bust their butts or grab them by the ears and drag them to their parents, not the kind of thing she needs to hear.

(Many blessings)

People pray all the time for God to cure their diseases. At least some fraction of the time the disease will go into remission due to the grace of God. Then why hasn't anybody ever grown back missing limbs (at least not that I've heard of)? Surely there are tons of amputees out there praying for God to return their limbs. Why aren't any of them lucky enough to receive God's grace? Is cancer that much more important?

Having spent time helping to develop cdrom based depression therapy programs, I have learnt that one of the big stumbling blocks helping people with a wide range of personality disorders is to break them out of black & white thinking.

It seems many of the answers put forward here by fundamentalist christians fall squarely into that catergory.

" It is only through Jesus that you can find salvation"

"Atheists don't have morals as morals come from God"

"Atheists are being fooled by Satan"

These are just a few examples that come up regularly.

One of the problems with black & white thinking, is it prevents meaningful discussion and the development of understanding another person's viewpoint, thus making empathy an impossibility.

Is it black & white thinking that makes religion so dangerous?

Is that why history is littered with so many wars fought in the name of religion?

When I was a mormon teenager I had a peace sign necklace I would wear and the mormon adults and my mormon peers were all aghast that I was wearing it. Why is peace evil? Is it because it relates to hippies and mormons hate hippies?

Christians, how come in the Bible it says that because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they were punished for it. But in Deuteronomy 24: 16 it says "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their father; each is to die for his own sin". So why does God punish Adam and Eve's children for their sin, when it later says that children shall not be punished for their parents sins.

I mean he keeps smiting all the wrong people. Good Christian families get hit by trains. Nice Christians getting cancer, ms, and other horrible ailments. Etc. Or is it because everyone is a sinner god is punishing them? Wouldn't he give you AIDS first before giving AIDS to a newborn?
