You'd really have to talk to her to understand this question to its fullest extent. But its like she has been in a time capsule for the past 40 years and has not learned anything new.

Idahogal - funny, she's in idaho too. Maybe you're just like her. And I hate that beotch for all the hell she put me through in my childhood and even into my early adulthood. I have no respect for her whatsoever.

In a way, yes. Mormon women turn their brain off to any logic or reason in order to continue believing the theology. They are taught that, in essence, they are only as holy as their husband, since he has to accept her into the Celestial Kingdom (their highest heaven). Because of this, they often close their eyes and ears to anything in the world that might discount their way of life. She is simply clinging to what she thinks (hopes) will save her in the end. Have patience with her, and if you are a praying fellow, pray for her. If not, just be kind and understanding when you speak to her, showing her rational (and again, patient) thought to help her move away from this.

This is one aspect of the Morg I find disheartening: the disenfranchisement of families due to ideologies. Unfortunately I cannot imagine what some people must go through, so I would not pretend to offer advice.
But as always, I'm more than willing to comment, no matter how irrelevant.
My mother was born in NE Utah nearly 100 hears ago, and her father was a stagecoach driver and later, a barber. His father pulled a cheapo handcart across the plains. When my mother was 8, she was baptized onto mormonhood, and she recalls every telling her how her sins were forgiven, and how she now had a 'clean slate' before god.
The next thing she did as soon as she got home, was go behind the barn as say every 'dirty word' she could think of. Some ten years later she married a catholic CCC worker from Ohio.
My rambling was trying to make a point: There are few mormons who do not let old white males do their thinking for them. She was a hell of a woman and although only had an 8th grade education, taught me an awful lot of 'real life'.

Mormonism or any other "ism", you sound like you need a swift kick in the a*ss. Why would it make any difference to you if she's learned anything new or not? Is there some law that says one must have a Ph.D in Theoretical Physics, or a Ph.D in Philosophy in order to be allowed to live? Let her the hell alone then.

Why would she need to be smart? Do you need a master's degree to pop em out? Hm...maybe mormon women should start majoring in sex ed...that's all they're gonna need anyways.

Your mom must be a sheep, but that's o.k, as a Mormon her roll in life is to be bare foot and pregnant.

Calling your mother stupid is just rude and disrespectful. Having a son that thinks so little of her must really hurt her feelings. You should be ashamed of yourself.
