It's a little late to be trying to fill him with Biblical verse isn't it, besides he's in a place where it is not going to matter much. My father was in and out of prisons and a 'spiritual" person is a "dead" one while in there. I don't know your son or what he did, but I suggest "your love" and "understanding" would go alot further than bibical recitation right now. Maybe later when he has been there awhile when he has regrets for his actions you can find strenght in the Epistles of Paul........

The Lord is my life and my salvation. Whom shall I fear, Lord whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, in whom shall I be afraid?
I think this is Psalm 27. It's a gospel song and often read to inmates by the chaplain when they enter. If you can order a CD player for him, find the music on iTunes by the lyrics, or ask someone at BestBuy or something.
He will survive it. He'll have to be tough. He can't believe just anybody. Prison is a different world and you can feel the negativity there. He will need to rise above that, but he can emerge a stronger man and have a great life when he's served his time.
We each have our own way to learn. One thing prison teaches you is that if you do the crime you do the time. Some people (many, actually) are put there unjustly, but they learn that even associating with bad people was their crime. Good behavior is paramount. Tell him to keep his cool, but be strong. And never lose faith in him, no matter how bad things seem.
I'll pray for you.

God is providing your son space to repent. If he views his prison term as a retreat to allow him to learn about Jesus, he'll come out a changed man.

Tell him that we all have some sort of prison. We are all bound by something.
Some are slaves of their job...others are slaves to their small children...other are slaves to food or drink or drugs.
We all have our torture stake to bear.
But if he will rely on God. God will make his mind over and use him there where he is and his life will improve.

an eye for an eye is a good one.
the golden rule is another good one.
your son is a criminal he is not there for a good time. he is there to be punished.
perhaps your trying to lift his spirits is what got him there in the first place.
while he is there try instilling in him that to do good deeds is a virtue! and doing bad deeds gets you more time in the fun house!!!

My heart fell when I read your question. I hope that you are lifted by the everlasting Spirit to peace and greater understanding.
I have made a prayer to God on you and your son's behalf. This one is a great Psalm. Please read it and understand that God is with those who trust Him.
Psalm 139
1O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
19Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
