From time to time someone on R&S will express a wish that we could somehow harness all this diverse spirituality to do something good, rather than just arguing with one another. I personally don't see debates as mere arguing--I like learning how other people think--but I, too, would like to see us all band together to do something good.
What if we were to designate one charity each month and ask all who are willing and able to donate $1 by PayPal (or some like means) to that charity. Would you do it? Of course, we're not all from the same country, so that could be a stumbling block, and we'd have to be thoughtful about the causes chosen, but I don't think the obstacles are insuperable. Surely we can agree upon at least twelve charities a year.
Anyway, what do you think? Lousy idea? Can it be done? Would you do it?
I nominate the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as this month's charity. Donations can be made online at https://secure.mdausa.org/Gift.aspx
