The top priority for the Christian church should be uplifting and tending to the spiritual needs and the lives of their congregation. That sets a great example and inspires others to join and get involved, to be part of that wonderful community - or it doesn't. The most important thing is to support those who are supporting you.
Peace!

I think that spreading the message of Christ's love should be the church's number one priority. However, sharing the love of Jesus doesn't involve shoving 'religion' down other people's throats. I think the most important aspect of winning souls is to create an example within ourselves. People have to see a difference between us and the rest of the world, a difference that they appreciate, or they'll never be interested. Even though we may understand that you can't put your faith in other people, even other Christians, someone outside the faith won't understand this ... something that is made obvious everyday, especially here on Y!Answers. The actions of some Christians push people away from God instead of bringing them closer. So, the church has to provide some kind of spiritual guidance to help us pattern our lives after Jesus. Going door to door or trying to shove idealogy down other's throats accomplishes nothing. Our greatest witnessing is done through our lives and actions, not our words.

Well, the Church is the bride of Christ, and the description of an ideal bride can be found in Proverbs 30. You will note that she does many important things: Running the household daily affairs, finding a field to sow seed in (the gospel), and preparing her children to go out into the world each day. Her most important role, due to it's repetition in the chapter, is to keep her hands busy helping the poor. This is what truly brings glory to her husband, everything else is important but not nearly as much so. Spend some time studying this chapter, it's well worth it!

The top priority for the Christian church is to live our lives as Jesus would have us live. If we could follow His teachings as we should, then people would naturally come to Christ because they see His love through what we say and do to both other christian as well as non-Christians.

No, winning people to Christ is not the most important for the church. The most important thing for the church is to spread God's love and mercy!

The top priority for the Christian church should be to present a compelling counternarritive to the mainstream of modernistic individualistic capitalism (which runs contrary to scripture).

Isn't that a bit like asking a married couple if their primary reason for being married is having children?
The relationship with Christ and one another is paramount! Too often, the church busies itself with self-perpetuating schemes like evangelism focus month, outreach time etc. etc. And I believe that this is because the churches have well nigh lost their moorings. The early church did not have "services" as we envision them today; they met for mutual encouragement, prayer and common meals - theirs was a truly shared life. (Acts 2:42) And where did they meet? In HOMES - HOUSES NOT in special religious "church" buildings.
We need to get back to simple church minus "song service" and preaching service - we need teaching, but not pulpit style. Just try to find the church ANYWHERE in the scripture meeting in the way that we do - it's not there!
Blessings!
Tom

The fastest spreading religion in the world is the Muslim religion who believe (according to the Koran) that all who don't believe are infidels to be wiped off the face of the earth. The top priority for any religion is change that thinking.

For every church I've ever seen, getting money from 'the faithful' is the top priority.
Second is finding ways to direct the opinions and actions of the members of the church in political, social, and other ways.
I think churches should find something else to do, so that they can be useful. Or shut down.
