like a quarterly evaluation progress report so I know if it's not even worth my effort to try to keep being good to get into heaven at this point or if i stop taunting christians for a week and then I can sin like crazy for another weekend and maybe I'll still break even ?

how do you know if what you're doing is good enough to get you into heaven?

If you haven't received an evaluation you can take it as proof that there is no evaluator. What kind of manager would wait until you retire to tell you whether or not you did a good job?

You have an interesting point. We don't get progress reports - although it would be quite intriguing if we did.

That said, it's not about breaking even....

"Love God with all your heart, and all your soul and love your neighbor as yourself."

If you truly believe that passage you wouldn't want to just "break even."

Think of it like a marriage - 'Well, if I just pay attention to my spouse during the week and completely torment my spouse over the weekend, we should have an okay marriage, right?'

We can never be "good enough" to get into Heaven, hence, Christ died. However, His mercy is so great and He loves us so much ,that He is always calling us to Him.
Think of it like God initiates the Love and we merely respond. If we didn't respond to our spouse when they were being affectionate, there wouldn't be much of a relationship and the realtionship might end. Your spouse, although they still might love you, might end up divorcing you.

If we are only trying to be "good enough," then we really don't Love.

The biggest myth about God is that He is looking for good people to invite into Heaven. The Bible is super clear about the fact that none of us is good compared to God; none of us can reach his standard of "good". The first sin we ever committed caused us to fail that perfect standard. That's the bad news. We've all fallen short of God's entry test into Heaven. Then why give us commandments? God's commandments were to show us that, infact, we can't keep up with His expectations on our own, no matter how good we are. After He drills through our tough pride that we can't achieve His standard of "good", He gives us the real answer. Here's the good part. God sent His son Jesus, with His perfect record, to take our places. In other words, Jesus' perfection can be applied to us, and that way we can gain Heaven. That's why in Ephesians it says, "We are saved by God's kindness when we trust in Him; we cannot be saved by our own good works because then we could just boast and brag." Get it? Trusting in Jesus to forgive our sins is the only way to Heaven. He didn't leave us hopeless, and He didn't leave us with many ways. The truth is, God loves us! Trust Him and be saved. I did!

PS - This is why Christianity is not like other religions. I have a degree in world religions among other things, and after traveling and studying, I personally made the choice to believe in Jesus. I saw that every other religion in the world teaches that you must earn your salvation (or Nirvana, etc). Christ says, " I'll do it for you. And in grateful response, do good." He did what I could not do and now my home will be Heaven. This is the key to life and eternity!

First of all you have to understand the underlying concept of why religions where created, and consequently what is the purpose of our existence.

I want to take up the answer of one of my friends above. God provided us with a consciuos. So if your conscoius is saying you are doing the right things such as being moral, being a good human being, not hurting anyone etc. basic things which may seem easy to do for some...but difficult for others or even impossible.

Also I do not agree with the concept that by just accepting Jesus one is "allowed" to do whatever he wants. Why should he be respsonble for our sins, faults etc. Think about it!

Listen closely Mister Camp, God does not judge you on your accomplishments or how good you were, no ones good enough to get to heaven because we sin even at birth we carry Adams and Eve bloodline, but through the mercy of our Father God he gave his only son so that we may have everlasting life. We are covered by his blood so when God sees us he sees his son, and when we acknowledge our sin and ask for forgiveness and believe he died for our sins then we are pardon and given the the key to heaven. Love of our Father your Father its always been about love Camp.

It's not worth your effort. You don't go to heaven by being good enough. You go to heaaven by accepting the gift god gave in Jesus Christ. Believe that jesus died to pay all the penalty for every sin, past present and future, and heaven is a lock.

This is really very sad. Not you, I mean, but the eschewed way the massage of Christianity is sometimes conveyed. It's NOT about trying to impress God with your own goodness. And he has chosen not to be our boss, but our father!

Christianity is about that wonderful relief of being forgiven and having a totally new relationship with God. When that happens the 'good deeds' come as a result, and not because you were trying so hard. You do the right thing because you love God.

It's a bit like when you and your father are really close and doing things together: you're not even thinking how to please him, you just automatically do the right thing because you want to.

God have given everything the whole world need. If you are saying you do not have what you want to have, then maybe you do not see what is just beside you and oftentimes you are already holding it in your hands, you just do not know how to use it rightfully.
Sinning and breaking laws are humanly natural just keep on repenting and repairing, the surgical tape may not hide what was broken but at least it shows you are trying to put it back.

You read the bible, the first step is to ecept Jesus, then read ur bible, it will feel great and it will help you through all the bad times, trust me i have lived for christ and it has shown and i am very glad, he has saved me from death, he has done so much for me. Jesus died so our sins can be forgiven. This is because "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - Romans something rather, and we are not perfect so the only way to heaven is through Jesus, and it is so worth it. God loves you so much "For God so loved the world he gave his one and only son, for whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 and if we trust in him he will help through everything "Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknoledge him and he will make your paths striaght." - proverbs something rather. If you have any questions ask me or any strong chirstain.

If you read the bible you know that Christ showed and example. If God graded us than we all would go to hell, the one without sin cast the first stone. We are saved by grace and mercy. If you believe than you will receive what ever you need to get through it! Jesus said Good! there is know one Good but God. The love of God, and the desire he places inside us through his spirit comes to life in us.If we could do it ourselves we would not have needed a savior.
