You have hit on a beautiful question!
We all have our limitations.
Everyone, even those that call themselves Atheists have a spiritual yearning in their hearts, that only they can understand.
The Spirit in man moves as the various waves of the oceans, move. Some are tiny waves and others are overpowering waves.
It is Important however for each to choose a wave they can ride on safely, without causing harm to the faith that is given freely to man by God before man enters the world.
Scriptures are like waves, they can take man on a journey that ultimately allows then to reach their creator (God).
All of these Scriptures are interpreted according to mans wisdom (Or consciousness). Everyone interprets the scriptures of the various faiths according their wisdom.
If we are all diligent in developing "Wisdom" we will eventually all see the same God, his Prophets and his Saints
as one large family that are actually living in "Unity". The scriptures
are pointing the way, its up to us to follow the signs..........

According to Protestant Christianity - yes, you can interpret the bible. That was one of the central themes of the Reformation. According to Catholicism, you cannot - the bible is absolute, and a priest must interpret it for you. Same with Islam, only an Imam or Mullah may interpret the Koran - you, as a lay person, cannot.
Personally, I think you read the holy books and take away the information that is important to you - information that will help you grow as a person.

I would argue that there is no way to NOT view the Quran and the Bible according to your own preferences and prejudices.
No one come to a text objectively as a blank slate. The sum of their previous knowledge and experiences ways heavily on their understanding of it. This is a subconscious action that cannot be willed away.

Oh yes!
I perceive both books as outdated reservoirs of primitive behavior used as a crutch for control over millions of people.
Way too much time and attention goes to these books, in my most humble opinion.

How else could you percieve anything except by viewing it through the lens of your own experience? Nothing can really be interpretted literally since we all have diferent frames of reference.

The Truth is Divinely inspired.
That is the Bible, the Word of God.
According to that understanding, I will seek HIS will and ways according to what He shows me in His Word.

doesn't everyone? i mean, that is why there are so many debates on religion and you can study theology. it is similar to philosophy. everyone has a different view of what the bible means and was trying to say. doesn't mean one answer is better than the other.

I don't think it's okay, because that what many people do and they take things out of context and completely miss the point of what is said.
