To me, the Bible was written, as a guide, to open our minds to the higher reality of mankind; not to be taken so literally, as most do.
Thus, in order to accomplish this, it is necessary to confront our straightforward ideas of life, and provoke us to think, imagine, and entertain possibilities that are beyond our normal state of reasoning.
Those who believe without question, and those who question without understanding, are equally blinded by the seals and symbols that have been intentionally incorporated into the body of the sacred texts.
As the Church Father Origen warned us, the Holy Spirit inserted roadblocks in the literal word - roadblocks that inhibit both blind acceptance and unenlightened critique - and in recognition of this great fact, Origen taught that: "Scripture contains an unhistorical element inwoven with the history, in order that the worthlessness of the latter may drive us to seek the spiritual meaning"
