Buddhist believe in a supreme being and their effort is to learn about the teachings of this deity. It is called enlightenment. The goal of the Buddhist is to achieve perfect enlightenment (Nirvana) or to put it another way is to have the perfect relationship between man and God. This is what all religions strive for, however they restrict themselves so much with their doctrine and dogma that they miss the point! To become one with God! Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things will be given to you! To me that means to study all religions looking for things that are the same and you will find the God you are looking for. Unless you are an atheist, you believe in a Divine force that cares for you, and you must live your life by whatever truth that you find.(As a man thinketh, so is he.)Do nothing to harm your fellow man in any way is the one Rule that all else stems from. - Good luck

Lord Buddha preferred silence while answering to one of his disciples on the question whether god does exist. Hence, it is difficult to conclude the Buddhist views on the concept of God. But it is rightly pointed out that it is an extension of Hinduism and it deals with only limited aspects of spiritual life and the theme is that every one can attain enlightenment if one treads the path shown by Buddha attain Buddha-hood.

The Buddha was a Hindu right up to his death. So he believed in a "main" God. People who adhered to Buddha's teachings and became his followers made up this byproduct of Hinduism called Buddhism. It is more of a philosopy than a religion, and in Vaishnavism Hinduism, Buddha is considered the 9th avatar of Vishnu and is therefore worshipped by devotees of Vishnu. Buddhists, however do not worship Buddha but do respect him as their teacher. I hope that helped and I haven't confused you more!!

I believe in the Divine. I'm not really a Buddhist, but I read His teachings and try to live them. I don't pray to Buddha.

We don't believe in an omnipotent creator being if that's what you're meaning. We also do not believe that the Buddha was a god either.

Does that help?
