I don't believe in any God. There is no scientific evidence to prove existence of any. It is impossible for a force like that to exist. Just think- a force that controls everything. It is so impossible that it is quite humorous. I have gotten into arguments with my parents, who are Christians. I get so angry that they believe in a God. I think they are fools for believing in God. Religion is the cause of the world's problems. Look at the Middle East. All these radicals are religious extremists. There have been no science extremists that I'm aware of. If science ruled the world, and it should, we'd be a much more logical and happy place. Science can prevent and cure diseases, not religion. Science can advance civilization, not religion. Science gives true happiness, not religion. In the future, science will save millions of lives when it discovers a cure to cancer, and religious people will still be asking a nonexistent force for some miracle cure that will not come without science.

It seems obvious that there is a problem that goes deeper than your question. You seem like an intelligent person and your argument appears to be well thought out. And I even agree on one point. Religion cannot do any of the stuff you mentioned. The rest of it is totally wrong. Please allow me to explain.

I am a Christian and a minister of God's word. I will try not to use the Bible as a reference since you have a problem with believing it. But there is no guarantee-just like with science.

"a force that controls everything". Well, the sun is in control of quite a lot. It provides heat when and where needed. It helps plants to grow and flourish. You know, the plants we eat as food. The plants that animals eat. It is a very important aspect of our existence, wouldn't you agree? Have you ever considered what life would be like if this planet were a little closer or a little farther away from the sun? Earth is in the perfect position to sustain life. But then I am no expert in science. How do you explain earth's precise location in our solar system?

As for the rest of your statements, I can only say this. It isn't about religion anyway. It is a personal relationship with God. Religion does cause many of today's problems in the world but a personal walk with the Creator of all things is what we all need.
I have seen the miracle healing power of the Lord and felt it myself in the almost 9 years of my Christian life. A man diagnosed with AIDS now has no signs or symptoms that he ever had it in the first place. Yes, I said AIDS. Not from one doctor either. A few second opinions were sought after and given. This man has nothing resembling the disease at all. Now since science has not developed a cure for it yet, how would you explain it?
If you want I can give more examples of miracles from a God you say does not exist. But I won't. Why? Well, you seem to be an intelligent person so you probably understand what I am saying.
God is real and your parents realize this. One day, they will not be around for you to ridicule and insult. Then what will you do? My guess, begin to miss them and the chances you had to spend quality time with them. You will perhaps even start to blame yourself and doubt your reasons for not believing in God. And more likely than not, you will become angry at the very God you claim does not exist.

Again I feel that you have a deeper issue than what you have stated in your question. Perhaps you should do a self examination and try to find the cause of your anger and rage. I mean the real cause of it.

People believe in God because, humanity needs something to believe in, just for the sake of it. I will not regard your example of the middle-east as it is not religion that sparked that conflict, it was Western policies oppressing the people over there. Furthermore, how can you honestly say that science can achieve happiness, representing everyones' view of happiness? In fact, there is much more evidence that science can bring unbelievable pain and suffering if not used properly. Religion and science can live hand in hand I believe, there is no need to go extreme on either ends. I am in no way condoning violence in the name of religion, but the same can go for wars over knowledge or in the name of knowledge, both are conceivable. I understand your argument and I can personally think of many examples when wars have been fought over religious rights eg) The Crusades. Again, case in point, religion has helped many people during hard times. In my opinion, the knowledge that there is a higher power above our own understanding is taking care of things is comforting to a lot of people. The fact that maybe you are not understanding is that science is humanity's attempt to comprehend the world around us, and it is extremely lacking in some ways at the moment as it can't possibly explain everything. When a researcher takes a gander at the cosmos and points and says, "there, thats a pocket of dark matter." is he certain it is? sure as hell he isn't. Science and Religion are very alike if you think about it.

People insist that there's a God either because belief in God is properly basic for them (see Alvin Plantinga's series on Warrant and Proper Function for an explanation), or because various arguments seem pursuasive to them.

I have yet to hear of an argument that makes God's existence impossible. Improbable, yes, but impossible, no.

Most of what you said in your post is irrelevent to the question of whether there is any God. There could still be a God even if religion causes problems in the world, there are religious extremists, or if religion has less success than science in preventing and curing diseases, making people happy, etc.

Personal evidence. It doesn't take an equation to believe in a God, and you wont find one. It takes personal evidence. And what about all the other astronomical mysteries in life that science doesn't touch. Yes people have in history made up "Gods" to explain life mysteries, but scientist make up ideas and lots of ideas get proved wrong. Plus some scientists throughout history have had the correct hypothisis but ridiculed and worse.

Yes people have experiences that can only be explained by one thing.

A Brave New World, just science would control us without our choices. And in the history of "religious struggles" it is usually some guy brain washing people or trying to control the world. And a scientist would have more power over me than some "religious" tyrant b/c I don't know all the science specifics. All these advances in science are nice, but it just takes one person to try and use them the same way a "religious" cleansing would.

Faith.

Faith is a powerful and wonderful thing, and many people have Faith in God. Thus, they insist He exists, because they can't do otherwise - at least, as long as they overcome any crisis of faith they might suffer along the way.

Most people have Faith in something - you seem to have Faith in Science. You believe it can advance civilization, grant true happiness, and you couch your dis-belief in God in scientific terms, because your Faith cannot abide any other point of reference.

Religion isn't the source of all evil that you seem to think it is, either. The brand of Communism under which bloody purges that cost millions of lives were carried out in the Soviet Union, for instance, was dogmatically athiestic. Of course, they had Faith in thier doctrine.

People who lack any sort of Faith are a sorry lot, having no purpose in life or place in the universe - though I suppose we don't start a lot of holy wars or genocidal purges, we also don't have many positive accomplishments to boast of.

My your Faith in Science, and your parents' Faith in God both remain strong. It's better than the alternative. I can attest to that.

Your ego is amazing. . .did it ever occur to you that other people's beliefs are just as valid as your own? And you obviously haven't been around long enough to realize that science isn't the be-all, end-all solution for the world's problems.

Science has made some horrific blunders: DDT, Thalidomide, and Agent Orange, to name just a few. I'd love to see you tell the victims of those great achievements that science gives true happiness and will advance civilization. Somehow, I think you'll be lucky if all they do is laugh in your face.

Incidentally, if you're still living at home, eating your parents' food, and being supported by their money, you owe them a MAJOR apology. You don't have to believe what they do, but if they're supporting you, you do owe them and their beliefs some respect.

Science deals with material things, which pertain to the physical world only. God is entirely non-physical and thus cannot be either proved, disproved or explained by science.

The existence of light implies the existence of darkness. The existence of richness implies that poverty also exists. The existence of contingent beings, who are in themselves imperfect, requires the existence of a non-contingent being who is Perfect. The existent of dependent beings implies that there is a being which is self-sufficient. The existence of the caused, requires the existence of an Absolute Cause, which is causeless and beyond time and space. There are many, many rational proofs for the existence of God. The existence of God is a fact.

What you have written about religionists is mostly correct. I think fundamentalist Christianity and religious extremism is a negative force in society. This just goes to show that science and religion must go hand in hand. There are many moderate religious people around the world, who accept scientific principles. There are many scientists who are religious. Science and religion are two wings of one bird, two aspects of human knowledge. Both are essential. One relates to the spiritual dimension, the other to the physical dimension.

Why can't we insist there is a God?

I don't care if you don't believe in God. Why there has to be scientific evidence to prove existence? It is impossible for
the Sun to shine so bright for billion of years. Just think, an Earth just spin and spin and spin and float in freezing space
for no reason at all. It is so impossible that we exist, how
and why we exist for? Why you argue with your parents for?
Why are you mad at them for believing in something they wanna believe in? Well I think you are a fool to worry about
something like this. No, Humans are the cause of the world's problems, I don't understand why God made us. Look at USA and Africa, people are so violent for no reason. You are so extremist. Yeah, Science extremists are trying to force us to believe that our relatives are apes. If Science ruled the world, then we wouldn't have problem with Global Warming, right?
Er, no? Yes? No? What about pollution, can Scientists deal with that? Why we need to pay Billion dollars on rocket to go up there in space, just so we can get some satelite? What is wrong with electricity? And the weather men never get it right.
And dumb people still live in Florida and don't care about Hurricanes. Science can cure cold, AIDS, and Cancer?
I don't think Science cure anybody.... but give us herbs and medicine, Jesus said we can use anyway. Civilization can
survive without Science. People just need to stop eatting bad food and stop getting bad heart and bad diabete, and have sex after marriage and stop smoking, then we wouldn't
need STUPID SCIENCE. Science doesn't make me happy, it just gives us overdose of cocaine like medicine. Poor Anna Nicole Smith, Elvis Presley, and Rush Limbaugh, all of those over the counter Drug ADDICTS. Well you people complain about OVERPOPULATION, so why save millions of lives for?
Well miracle can happen.... just have to have faith.

You go ahead and disbelieve, and let others have their beliefs. It's not as if either party can prove anything, so what's the point of arguing? You CAN'T convince anyone NOT to believe in God. It's not going to happen. As much as you say there is no proof God exists...there's also no proof that God doesn't exist. It's a futile argument. We'll all find out the truth when we die, at which point...someone will be very surprised.

Sure, there have been a lot of deaths in the name of God...BUT...is that really what the fight is over? I think it's over power. The most powerful entity we have, is God (if you believe, and most people do). If God is on your side, YOU have the power...therefore, fighting in the name of your own version of God (Islamic, Christian, Jewish etc...) is a strong weapon against any enemy. Religious wars aren't fought for God. They're fought for control while using the name 'God' as a weapon against the other guy.

You are angry with your parent's beliefs? But how about their heartache that they will be in heaven without you for eternity? Please put your anger aside for just a little while and consider what I'm going to say. I'm not telling you to believe anything you do not want to, But I am very concerned as your parents are with your future. You're looking at things with your human ability and understanding and understandably cannot comprehend anything outside of this. Anything I or your parents tell you are foolish to you, I'm sure, so I am asking you to just once look to Jesus for truth. Pray to God, in the name of Jesus for an open heart and mind to guide you in the right direction. Our answers are not in man, but in Almighty God who created us. I agree, Religion has caused many problems, but I'm not a follower of Religion, but a follower of Jesus. My faith is a relationship with Jesus, not a religion. When we ask Jesus in our life, He changes us into a new creation and we see what you cannot see and understand what you cannot. YOU too can have hope in this world and a future forever with God and YOUR parents. Your parents aren't gullible and crazy, their eyes are just opened by God/Jesus. Please do not deny yourself eternal happiness. JUST because you do not believe in God, Heaven and hell, does not have any bearing on it's existence!! I will truly pray for you. Things will not get better in this world. Revelation tells us the future. Any ques, I'd be happy to ans. Keep asking. Thanks for reading.
