My husband & I are having a disagreement. I say things to him & he doesn't answer or respond in anyway. I am uncertain of whether or not he even hears me, because he says nothing & does not acknowledge that I even spoke. It is upsetting to me because I was taught that you respond when you've been spoken to giving some response. He says there is no need to respond to anything that is not a question. I understand that a question requires an answer, but it is proper for someone to not in anyway acknowlege you when you talk to them? I'd think he is probably technically correct, but it is kind or considerate? Thanks for any help.

Some of my coworkers are not part of a religion that celebrates Christmas, is it appropriate to give them a card at Christmas time? I don't want to leave them out, but I don't want to offend.

Friend just finished her graduate degree - she's single, employed, has a disability but overcame it and we're proud of her. Is a nice necklace too "personal" or "tacky", like one with diamonds or other gemstones? (She has no significant other, or likely prospects now, and is not looking)...

First of all I want to say i'm all about tipping when appropriate. I make sure everybody is well tipped (i.e. waiter/waitress, barber, pizza delivery guy, etc)

There is a "Daily Grind" coffee shop a block from where I work. I usually see a tip jar in front of the cash register. Is it appropriate to tip? I feel I don't have to because they aren't doing anything that requires them to be tipped. Some of my friends say I should tip, but what makes them different than workers at a fast food place. Fast food workers don't get tipped.

Every year my mom asks me what I want for Christmas. Every year I tell her anythng BUT clothes. This is because I have an odd shaped body (big hips, small waist) and I really need to try clothes on. Every year, without fail she buys me clothes and usually she'll buy me some awkward size that isn't even close. So this year, I am pregnant. Mom bought me maternity clothes to be comfy in. I have not seen them yet, but I am sure they won't fit. They never do. After five years of the same thing, I am so frustrated. This year I am going to her house for xmas and I think I might sob when I open them. How can I prevent that? I really don't want to hurt her feelings, and I know she had good intentions. This year I told her that she should just buy stuff for the baby since we don't have anything, or make a donation in my name.
Have you ever recieved a gift that you really hated, and the giver could tell by the look on your face? What did you do? I know I am being a big brat.

When I think gentlemen, I think a guy who holds the door open, lets the lady have the right of way, is poilite to her, etc. And I think if a guy is dating someone he should stand when she enters the room. I'm 16 but a bit old fashioned. Can I hope for any guy who is a true gentleman? Would any guys out there consider themselves gentleman? And girls what else do you think a gentleman should do?

I get fed up with American's going on about "the land of the free" and their general all around ignorant attitude.
America did not invent demorcracy, neither is it the most demorcratic country in the world, and it is fundamentally corrupt. You always get the impression from them that they don't have a clue what they're talking about.

My best friend often stays up until early in the morning and then gets up between 11 and 2, but she takes naps at different times throughout the afternoon and evening (not the same from day to day).

So essentially, there is no way to ensure I won't wake her up when I call. I don't like waking her up and she gets annoyed if I wake her up, but it seems unavoidable. She doesn't work nights and she doesn't have medical problems or insomnia.... I feel like it's rude to sleep during the day and then expect for others not to call you?

There are over 75 questions about food server tipping, the majority of them discuss percentages. This is fine if you are spending $30 or $50, but as someone who never buys alcohol by the glass and often splits an entree with his wife resulting in a $15 or less bill, I wonder if 15-20% is adequate.

What is the minimum tip for a food server working in average chain restaurant? What if you are dining alone? Does this change the minimum or percentage?

Current and past food servers are encouraged to comment.

Why can't people just say "happy holidays." I don't ******* get it; christmas is not the only holiday. Seriously, it's so ridiculous how these selfish people only say "merry christmas" only referring to their religious holiday, rather than including them all in a simple "happy holidays." **** that. Why can't people just understand that christmas is not the only thing going on at this time. I'm not saying that it is necessarily offending, but coming from my religion-less point of view, it seems that these arrogant bitches can't understand that their holiday is not the only one. This isn't really a question; I'm just hoping that someone here will realize that this is the right thing to do.

I work in NYC, in midtown. Alot of girls I work with wear Jessica Simpson style high heels. I love all those shoes but I was a tomboy growing up and now i'm in my 20s and I can't walk in those type of shoes. One time I wore a pair of 3in. heels and honestly I feel in the subway. NYC just moves too fast on the street for me to dress up and wear those shoes. So i'm forced to wear "kitten heels" or flats everyday! I feel stupid - is that acceptable or not? How do girls learn to walk in high heels like they're sneakers? Can I do it?
