Friend just finished her graduate degree - she's single, employed, has a disability but overcame it and we're proud of her. Is a nice necklace too "personal" or "tacky", like one with diamonds or other gemstones? (She has no significant other, or likely prospects now, and is not looking)...

She just finished her graduate degree but what is her living situation? Is she moving out of a dorm for the first time? If so, I think it's better to get her something for the house. There are so many things you need when first moving out that it seems you spend hundreds of dollars on just cleaning supplies and basics.

Perhaps a nice kitchen item. Not sure what budget you are looking at, but a blender, a spice rack, some nice copper pots or silicone bake ware, George Foreman, some wall art, a nice vase for flowers or perhaps a double diploma frame to frame her new degree.

Any of those would be great.
