Why can't people just say "happy holidays." I don't ******* get it; christmas is not the only holiday. Seriously, it's so ridiculous how these selfish people only say "merry christmas" only referring to their religious holiday, rather than including them all in a simple "happy holidays." **** that. Why can't people just understand that christmas is not the only thing going on at this time. I'm not saying that it is necessarily offending, but coming from my religion-less point of view, it seems that these arrogant bitches can't understand that their holiday is not the only one. This isn't really a question; I'm just hoping that someone here will realize that this is the right thing to do.

maybe i should just hang myself on a cross to get my point across... yeah, other stupid comments...
Sherry K- "It seems odd that I am WRONG to display my Christianity, but YOU are correct in using abusive language and decrying that agnosticism is the respectful way to be! Now who is being selfish? Believe me, you are in the minority in this instance."
yeah, you're right. I should just go up to people and tell them that there may or may not be a god, and that this is the only belief there is. sounds good!

I think saying Happy Holidays is the right thing to do but when people say Merry Christmas I don't think they are being selfish or arrogant. I think the people that say Merry Christmas don't realize how it may offend some. Most people that say Merry Christmas probably grew up around people that celebrated Christmas and they probably didn't know anyone else that celebrated anything different. Now it's probably just a habit for them.
When someone says Merry Christmas to me, I just smile and say Happy Holidays and hope that they get the subtle hint. If they don't get the hint, oh well. I know in their hearts they are just wishing me well and that's nice no matter what words they chose.

I think you are taking your anger too far. People say Merry Christmas as a way of wishing you well...and perhaps Happy Holidays is a more inclusive greeting, but since we live in a country that is mostly Christians it isn't really a stretch for a Christian to assume that you are as well. Since my family is Jewish, we have learned to have patience with this and take the intended meaning of the message rather than the actual wording to heart.
What REALLY irritates me is when I say "Happy Holidays!" and people get defensive because I didn't say Merry Christmas. There are some Christians that somehow think that the Happy Holidays message is degrading to their faith or something, and those people are just so wrapped up in defense of their beliefs that they don't think for one second that I may not share them.

I'm not against saying Happy Holidays if I so choose to do so. But, I certainly don't like it when certain religious groups/non religious groups are offended and insist that everyone chirp " Happy Holidays". Like you, for instance. This is the season I and other Christians say Merry Christmas because we are acknowledging and celebrating Christ's birth. And to refer to other people as "arrogant b*tches" because this obviously does annoy you certainly reveals something about your lack of maturity .

Would you feel the same way hearing "Happy Hanukkah?" I don't feel that I am being selfish at all saying Merry Christmas and I am offended that you have lumped us all under the heading of "b!tches." It seems odd that I am WRONG to display my Christianity, but YOU are correct in using abusive language and decrying that agnosticism is the respectful way to be! Now who is being selfish? Believe me, you are in the minority in this instance.

Well, as I grew up saying Merry Christmas, it's just habit for me. I don't really think about it.
But also, when I say it, I'm not thinking, "Celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ"
Mostly I'm thinking, "isn't this a nice time of year, and isn't it nice we can all get along together because almost everybody is in a good mood right now?"
I'm a agnostic and while I'm not Christian everyone in my family is, so I'll open presents and give gifts on Christmas day for them. So when I say Merry Christmas I'm not pushing my beliefs on anybody.

I think they are the same. Sometimes I say Happy holidays, sometimes, I say merry christmas. I say because of habit, I do not really think that much of it.

"Happy Holidays" is just being politically correct so no one will be offended. I say "Merry Christmas" since I am not one who wants to be politically correct.
