I already said that I would attend, but now, the day of the party ,I'm regretting it. Please help! The hosts are nice & I need a believable excuse. Thanks

Just call them and say you are sorry to have to cancel at the last minute but you are not feeling well. I think just having the courtesy of phoning to say you won't be there is enough.

Let them know that you have previous plans (I'm sure you already planned not to attend things you don't want to. ) They might ask what they are so let them know you are supposed to spend some time with family. Ask a family member to a movie or shopping or cards. Whatever. Good luck. Homework is also another good excuse and the plus will be if you actually do homework. (I don't know your age so I don't know if it is applicable.) Just make sure that whatever you say is what you actually do. This takes the lie out of it and leaves you clean.

The very best answer is the truth, you just can't make it because your not felling well :)
honestly though if they are nice people. Try going you may be glad you did. If the party sucks and then you want to leave, they'll appreciate the fact that you gave the effort to come.

Illness is VERY believable this time of year. Period issues or just say female problems in a frustrated voice. Family things come up. Car trouble happens. Roads can be bad and you could dislike driving on them. You can be having seasonal depression or panic attacks. Loads of things. Don't be too creative. Use real and common things.

Don't you know you're supposed to call a week ahead and say you can't attend because you're 'not in the mood'? :) You could say your goldfish died. A close relative called you last minute to baby sit. Your washer overflowed and you have to clean up, plus you have nothing to wear.

If they are good friends, and you have agreed to go, then you should not lie to your friends - just put yourself out and attend - that's what etiquette is all about. You can always slip away once you have put in an appearance

Just make an appearance and then say you have another engagement to attend.

Say you forgot you had a family affair to go to. Or you can always say you feel like you're getting sick.
Since you like the person, just give them a gift later.

If they are nice why don't you attend it? Be brave, face your fears.

If you really don't want to attend, tell them you are not feeling too well.
