I've never participated in office politics at any of my previous jobs. I just work hard and stayed professional. However, since being in the workforce I've noticed a lot of people who do participate in office politics receive promotions and raises. While, the hard working and dedicated co workers are over looked.

Describe an (important) occasion when you were late.
You should say:
when this happened
what occasion you were late for
why you were late
and explain what happened as a result of your lateness. *
or
and explain why this occasion was so important. *
or
and explain how you felt when you were late. *

Thank you :)

Everytime a pregnant woman strikes up a conversation with me, while I'm out doing errands, of course her pregnancy drifts in the conversation. I always ask the expected mother if she minds if I touch her stomach. Not one mother has ever decline, but I'm wondering if I am being inappropriate. Am I?

P.S. I never lift up their blouses/shirts, etc...

I have to write an essay on what to avoid while giving speeches and I'm at the point where you should avoid sexist, racist, etc comments.

Why? Other than the obvious that your listeners will be offended?

When I go to the gym, I normally work out wearing my swimsuit, so I can just jump in the pool to cool off at the end of my session. I've been doing this for maybe a year and it's never seemed to bother anyone.

Now, there's a new deputy manager just started working there, and she came into the gym and saw me and got really annoyed and demanded that I wear "proper" gym clothes. I pointed out that I had been wearing a swimsuit in the gym for a long time and no one had complained.

She then started saying it was a safety issue. How on earth can wearing a swimsuit be unsafe? If anything, loose-fitting clothes are more unsafe because they're more likely to snag on something.

Fortunately, the other people in the gym (staff and customers) were on my side -- I know most of them.

But why would she get so annoyed about me wearing a swimsuit in the gym? I know it's unusual, but I've seen a few other women do it, presumably for the same reason I do.

There was about 2 weeks that we had repairing in our home and I had to go about 30 mins late to my gym. I thought that I can copensate these 30 mins with working with the treadmill and static bike that is there and I sometimes saw ppl use them after their aerobic classes. So after I finished my 300 mins from 1 hour of aerobic class, for these 2 weeks I used treadmill and static bike to compensate my 30 mins late. It's actually not a big gym and I saw so many others who used these without having to register for them and I asked a gal and she said we use them they don't usually say anything if you work with these machines after your class.
Well today, after our aerobic class I used the treadmill for a short time and the I went to register for the next month as my classes for this month got finished. But this time the registrant asked me if I use the gym body-building machines too, and I told her frankly that only on these 2 weeks as I came late I used them as I thought that we can, and she said no even if you come late, to use the machines you should register for them separately. Well I didn't know that and I told her cause the other gyms that I went to before allowed using body-building machines for a while after aerobic without having to register for them separately. So I said ok i didn't know that and asked the fee for using machines. After I wanted to get my card back(which I handed to her to put the last tick for this month of my gym), I saw that she has marked two ticks by mistake, one for this last session that and another one for my next session which I just registered for. Then suddenly our own aerobic teacher also came and sat there infront of the registrant. I told the register that she has put two marks and so she removed the extra tick that she had put on my card by mistake. Well so I was about to leave the gym and close the door that I heard the registrant is telling our aerobic teacher that "she has registered for aerobic but she uses the machines too!!", well I was almost out of the gym and couldn't turn back at that time to explain for our aerobic teacher also :(. But I thought that this can make not a good image in our teacher's view, and also at the same time our repair in our home has also finished so I wont be late at the class anymore.
But I'm already abit upset because usually our teacher doesn't sit there infront of the registrant and this time I think she heard and thought bad about it...I was coming out when the registrant was telling our teacher:(....I didn't want that happen....

If you were in my shoes what would you tell to yourself in this case, with knowing that I didn't know and I wont be late and won't use the machines also anymore....I would be ontime and will come back after our aerobic class from now....But I still don't have a good feeling of that our teacher was told about this there, and I don't think I would find anyother chance to tell her that I didn't know that, though maybe telling her later wouldn't also help.....
Just what would you think to yourself to come out of this bad feeling ...I feel a bit upset now....I think it was not needed to be told to our teacher but the registrant told that because I mentioned the extra tick that she had put by mistake and our teacher was there too....So what would you tell your self to come out of this bad feeling if you were in this case with knowing them all? :(

I want to hold a dinner party for about 20 adults at my home. I have 2 young children myself but for a change and a stress free night want to have an adults only dinner party. I have no problem telling my friends to get a babysitter and they are fine with that, but I am inviting a few of my students, who are from mixed cultures. How do I word the invitation so they know they can't bring their kids but without making it sound impolite. (I really do not want any kids to come!).

A tip is something given for great service, when the waiter/waitress goes above the standards to make you feel welcome. Bad service (should) get no tips.

But what about average service? Should a waiter who does a standard job but does nothing extra to make you feel welcomed get a tip? Does simply taking your order then giving you your food deserve a tip? Alot of places the waiter doesn't even bring you your food, someone else does.

Has this ever happened to you? You're talking to someone who you thought was relatively intelligent and you start to realize that the person you're talking to hasn't a clue as to what you're talking about?
Once, when I was in the Army I was talking to a Sergeant First Class who asked me if I was going to make the Army a career. I told her that I wanted to be an English teacher back home after completing college. She thought about that for a moment and then asked me, "Well, don't most kids in the U.S. already know how to speak English?" Unfortunately, she wasn't kidding. I felt guilty for having to explain it to her.

My girlfriend often makes rude comments about my family becasue we buy new cars and nice thing all the time because we are finacially secure. She says these things because her family is kinda poor and cant afford the things we buy. I never brag about the new things we get or point them out, but she notices them. I do not think my family should have to change our lifestyle for her. I love to buy cloths even though i am a guy and im not afraid to buy a 40 shirt or a 60 pair of jeans i work for my money and should be able to buy what i want right? i spend plenty on her as well so she shouldnt feel left out at all. Has anyone been through a similar situation, and she also believe that i sould be responsible fro picking her up on dates every time, she lives 16 miles away. but im practical and its stupid for me to make two trips when she can make one, am i right? its not about the money, but its the principle behind it, whats everyones opinion?

I find funerals difficult to attend, therefore I usually wont attend, when it comes down to it. There is an upcoming funeral for a person I once was close to a long time ago and I am today feeling like going however I feel strange about going due to the fact that it has been about 7 years since I had contact with her.

My girlfriend has been reading too many magazines again. She says that everyone does it and that I am too much of a square. The problem is that the library we go to is REALLY quiet, and she is really LOUD. What should I do? On one hand I don't want her to get bored with me but on the other hand I don't want to be banned from the library or have an 80 year old librarian smile at me in that special kind of way every time I come in.

here's the email i sent him and the one he responded to me back.

In the future, in the event of a class cancellation, could you please put an announcement on d2l or send everyone an email? Apparently you announced it in class last Thursday, however, I missed because I was representing college at a conference ; therefore, i had no knowledge of the cancellation and tried to show up to class Tuesday AND Thursday, bewildered that no one else was there.

Miss ___,
I did not like the TONE of your email and would like you to refrain from sending such an email to me AGAIN. As you know...or probably should have KNOWN...that week was reserved for you to work on your final project WEEKS ago. I did announce it in class and YOU should have known about it WAY before your representation to the Honors College in Denver. Also, for FUTURE reference, you should have gotten in touch with your classmmates as I
> asked you to do in the BEGINNING of the semester when you were suppose to
> get their EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER. Furthermore, I will not have you tell me
> HOW to announce information to my class. It's obvious that you are the only
> one that didn't get the information. ________________________________

Well, I like to be nude sometimes. Well, anyways, sometimes in summer, I will go into the pool in the nude then come out and tan. Sometimes I will call her out, and not cover up, and ask her stuff, just acting like nothing is different. Also, sometimes I will walk to my room at a shower without on, and just walk in front of her. Is this normal?

I am 14.

I've lived in an apartment with my three girls, 7, 10, and 12. They are typical children, a bit excitable, a little loud, but typical. A lady moves in next door and starts complaining that she has to get up at three in the morning for work, and my kids are too loud....my lease says quiet hours are between 11 and seven. We are sound asleep from 9:30 until 7:30. Is it my fault she works these hours? My kids aren't blasting music or anything, but the walls are a little thin, and you can hear every footstep. What did she think it would be like to live in an apartment?

For people that work at these places, does it bother you when someone goes out to take a smoke while on clock? For people that eat at these places, does it bother you that the people making your food are smoking in between topping burgers? Overall, do smokers just bother you? Are you like me, do you not breathe for 10 seconds when you walk by someone who is smoking? Doesn't their "right" to smoke infringe upon your right to fresh air? Why don't smokers ever get arrested for littering? Does it bother you when smokers just their cigarette butts on the ground?
