I've lived in an apartment with my three girls, 7, 10, and 12. They are typical children, a bit excitable, a little loud, but typical. A lady moves in next door and starts complaining that she has to get up at three in the morning for work, and my kids are too loud....my lease says quiet hours are between 11 and seven. We are sound asleep from 9:30 until 7:30. Is it my fault she works these hours? My kids aren't blasting music or anything, but the walls are a little thin, and you can hear every footstep. What did she think it would be like to live in an apartment?

I wouldn't even bother telling the landlord. The quiet hours are clearly indictated(I assume) to everyone who signs the lease. You weren't violating that rule, and you weren't being extremely loud, beyond just going about your day to day life. If this lady gets up a 3 am, she probably goes to bed around 6 or 7 the night before. Expecting much, if any, peace and quiet at that time of night in an apartment is quite unreasonable. If you were to try to keep the noise down, that would be the polite thing to do, but I wouldn't go out of my way to alter my routine just because my neighbor worked unusual hours. As long as you aren't breaking the rules, it really is her problem.

Well it's hard living in an apartment where someone has to get up in the early morning. Someone's always going to complain. You are right in the way that you are following the lease rules and she also has the right to complain as she is a paying tenant.

You might want to talk to her and come up with a compromise. If this doesn't work, you will need to speak to the manager to resolve this issue.

I am on your side. everyone knows that living in Apartment,sound/noise will carry. You are not up past 9:30 p.m. and are well between the quiet hour allowance.
I would talk to the landlord and make sure she realizes you are living by the rules.

Good Luck ;)

Maybe if we hear her side of the story, we could better judge, but that's not quite possible, so.

Sounds like you need to take this to the landlord. Your neighbor should have known the quiet hours before she moved in, so it seems that it is her problem. I would take it to the landlord to see if this is something that can be resolved quickly. Maybe the landlord will allow your neighbor to move to another apartment in the building father from yours or to another property all together that will better meet her needs. She should be the one to move, if it comes to that. She is the one having the problem and she moved in last.

some people love to cause trouble. tell the mgr. they either have to help in a way where this lady keeps from bothering you. or she has to let you move into another apt. or move the lady. your point will be We were her first. the people before us never complained. don't live in a glass house! it's totally up to the mgr. to solve the problem!! nothing happens there, call your BBB. or the police. she is harassing you and the girls!

I don't think she is trying to cause trouble, I think she is trying to get some rest. At least she told you first.

Can you perhaps be a bit more mindful of her?

What an impossible situation. I agree with you. Better tell your landlord now before she tells him/her the story (and enhances it)!
