LMFAO!!! I love it! Some people will truly surprise you, won't they!
I work at a pizza chain, and believe me, I have to try to converse with some pretty thick-headed KIDS.
I have developed a new philosophy of life, and it goes with your "topic" line... If you try arguing with an idiot, what does that make YOU?
Of course, in your story, you had no idea the other person was a tad "off" the mark.
Well... I'm glad you decided to explain things, and that you didn't suffer any "rank" consequences because of it. You must have a great deal of tact!
Have a polite day.

Wow. And she was a sergeant? Sheesh. That is REALLY embarrassing. Actually most kids do NOT know how to speak proper English...and many adults, judging from what you see around here sometimes.

Yeah, happens to me all the time. They get this look in their eyes...I call it "glazing over" and then I realize they have absolutely no clue what I was talking about all along. I almost feel guilty when I go a mile or two over their heads.
My husband told me a similar thing about a guy in his detachment who has real high IQ but didn't know how to tie his own shoes.

Sure! -Like the time I tried to explain to this guy that he couldn't Drive from N.Y to Puerto Rico... -& he says, "Ok, then I'll take a Bus..." & when I told him that THAT wouldn't work either, he complained about not having enough money for the Train... By THEN- I was laughing so hard even I wasn't making much sense (ESPECIALLY after he grouses, "Dios mio- it's too far to Walk!!!) :)

Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.
