Because stereotypes and generalizations are the recourse of a weak mind.
It takes a lot more intelligence, discipline and energy to look at people as individuals rather than a lump sum.
But if you want to get at the truth that's how it has to be.

Also make sure to include that finding out who/what your target audience is, is key. Anytime you give a speech and you offend anyone, they won't take your speech seriously nor will they care what you have to say. Others will follow that trend, and soon no one will listen to you. You could write the most wonderful speech ever written, but the moment, you "hurt someones feelings" they will throw out everything you say.

Because the listener you offend will no longer be paying attention to anything else you have to say, and in some places and situations you can be prosecuted for what can be labeled as "hate speech" if it results in violence or action against a group or individual.

Speeches always have a purpose....inform, motivate, inspire, sell, etc. When you use "red flag" words, you take the focus off what you are trying to accomplish in the speech and place it on the words. Therefore, you are less likely to be successful in accomplishing the purpose of the speech.

You need to establish goodwill so people will listen to you. Thats what a speech is, getting your point across. If you offend me, I'm not gonna buy what your selling. Ethics is a HUGE part of speech.

well other than offending ppl it will give your speech a lot of negative feedback and thus the intent of the speech will be overshadowed by all the drama negating it's actual purpose and no one will take on what u have to say. lol

Well, do you want to be perceived by your audience as sexist, racist, homophobic, etc? Your speech reflects *you*. How do you want to be seen by them?

All good answers -- basically, why should your audience listen to what you have to say, when they can see you're a fool?

They'll distract from your message
they'll alienate your audience
They'll ruin your credibility
They'll be used against you later (especially if you ever run for office)
Need more?
