He lives in the downtown area, with high people fraffic. Is this considered unexectable & rude if someone knocks on his door & then opens his door without him even having a chance to say, hang on, or be right there, his livingroom is right at his entry door. Thanks.

Yes, unless it is someone who has been specifically told, "No need to knock, just come on in." It's exceptionally rude for anyone to let themselves into your home uninvited.

Many people have said he could resolve this issue by Locking His Door. I don't know if he has always lived in a high traffic area, but the first time someone walked into my home, would have been the last. Not only would I have locked my door, I would have added locks to my door as an extra precaution.

That's what locks are for: to keep the dangerous and uninvited out. A locked door will also give him time to say, hang on or be right there.

Those who said this was not rude, it was inconsiderate, and (potentially) life-threatening were also correct.

Hope I helped. God bless you.

Technically it's trespassing.

Whatever happened to locking the door??? An open door is an invitation for trouble, you know.

If I leave my house or car unlocked and someone breaks in, the insurance company can legitimately reduce the claim. Did you know that? There's a certain amount of responsibility that the resident/owner carries to minimize the damage. That just as an FYI.

How rude... Personally I'd have the door locked, but seriously! Who knows what you're doing in the living room when they come AND the whole street can see!

I say, a person should never just walk in. Although, it depends on the area of the country. There are places where it's acceptable. Me, I would never do it. I would also always lock my doors. I do it as soon as I walk into my house, it's never unlocked unless me or someone else is actively walking through it :)

I don't really understand your question but basically it is rude for someone to enter a house without the tenant's permission. I think these people are probably close buddy of your son and they never realise that it is rude to enter his house without his permission. Ask you son to lock his door at all times.

Is it someone that he knows? well i guess either way its more than rude its scary omg i would flip out if i wasnt expecting anyone and i heard someone trying to open my door. advise him not to be too friendly and keep hishouse keys away when he has company just in case. he should let his buddys know that he has company or you come by really often so people dnt think he is all by him self because of the neigborhood.

I wouldn't say rude so much as inconsiderate. The guest does not know whether your son is ready to receive company or not.

With that statement, there is the exception for friends who are always welcome no matter the situation. If your son is bothered by the intrusion of unexpected guests who let themselves in, then he should lock his door. It's a simple solution, really.

Without a doubt it's rude for anyone to just walk in. Why doesn't he but a lock on his door? He's gotta set the boundaries in his domain. This is his castle!!!!
