I have had a strained relationship with my mom for many reasons too many to include in this email, one her not showing up at my wedding, and choosing men over me for years but I still try to visit her. My husband and I drove 7 hours to go visit her this weekend and she acted cold, and looking for a fight, toward her husband and us and made the visit a total downer. They never come visit us, but she tries to guilt me into coming to see her. They never go out and do anything not even out to dinner. I feel guilty for not liking to visit my mom but it seems like I am always the one putting forth effort. What should I do?

I'm going to be someone's house guest for two days--is it good etiquette to get that person a present or anything, and if so, please give me some suggestions as to what would be appropriate.

Well I have experimented with this and the funny thing is sometimes when I start up a serious conversation with anyone it's almost as if they are ignoring me I mean they know already that I am a deeply intellectual person but when I bring up anything that is even the slightest bit intellectual they kind of seems they pretend not to hear me.

I have to share a small 10x10 office with a woman who can not do anything without talking to herself. It is annoying and I want her to stop. I don't want to hurt her feelings because she I am sure she would not take it well that I am completely annoyed by her existence.

sooooo Should I try to break it to her gently? Tell a superviser that I am tired of the distraction? Do nothing?

this is honestly the most annoying thing ever...
hearing random numbers and names and bs constantly is annoying.... plus she stacks up work for almost a year then gives it to me to do!?!??! wtf?

I went to visit my mom this weekend. I just got a new/used BMW. I showed it to her and instead of saying it was nice etc, she said it was too small for her taste and she would want a bigger car. Is she trying to out do me? or did she really dislike my car. It is a BMW 330i whats not to like?

I see such rude remarks being made these days. What ever happened to common courtesy? You don't have to agree just respect others and remain silent. The old saying is "Silence is Golden."

there is a lady in town (we live in a fairly small town) that makes hairbows and sells them to people online and at consignment stores. she charges about $5 per bow and she does really well. i thought that it was too expensive and decided to buy supplies and make them on my own. i didn't have long to work on the hobby because i started school full-time and i do everything at home (change diapers, chores, errands, etc...). i can't afford to to pay $5 for bows, but am really wanting my little girl to have nice, girly bows to put in her hair. i thought about e-mailing/calling her and asking her if she would consider making them for about $2, if i provided her with the supplies and gave her what was left afterwards (i have tons of ribbon and hair clips). would this be rude?

What do I say to a co-worker that gets mad when my unit has food for one reason or another and wants to know why I didn't bring her anything to eat. When her unit has food she never offers me anything but gets mad at me if I don't offer her something. Please tell me the best response to this next time she does this.

Fatty and rich food disagrees with me. If I eat too much of things like cream, butter or pate, I sometimes get stomach cramps that can last a day or more. I’m also trying to lose some weight, so I try to avoid fatty food for that reason too.
However, my boyfriend is an enthusiastic cook and loves to mess about in the kitchen making elaborate meals and quite often these involve the use of cream, butter, olive oil etc.
I’ve explained to him (several times) that I prefer not to have fat added to my food but it goes in one ear and out the other. If I ask him not to use butter, the dish is swimming in olive oil instead! If I say I want a nice simple bit of chicken or fish for dinner I get it fried, not grilled.
Last night he made a Beef Wellington, which is first smothered in pate and then baked in a pastry case - both pate and pastry being really high in fat, of course. He was so looking forward to eating it, and it took him ages to make so I didn’t say anything but just ate it, and
