there is a lady in town (we live in a fairly small town) that makes hairbows and sells them to people online and at consignment stores. she charges about $5 per bow and she does really well. i thought that it was too expensive and decided to buy supplies and make them on my own. i didn't have long to work on the hobby because i started school full-time and i do everything at home (change diapers, chores, errands, etc...). i can't afford to to pay $5 for bows, but am really wanting my little girl to have nice, girly bows to put in her hair. i thought about e-mailing/calling her and asking her if she would consider making them for about $2, if i provided her with the supplies and gave her what was left afterwards (i have tons of ribbon and hair clips). would this be rude?

It wouldn't be rude. Your supplying her with everything, you just need her talent. She might be flattered if you said to her, "I tried, but I just can't do a good of a job as you, please, could you help me out?". Its worth a shot.

No, that is not rude at all. Just talk to her about it, she might refuse or she might not, mattes on the person she is. The worst that can happen is she says no and then you already of the ribbons where if you find some time then you can still do it.

Just wondering. Have you ever though about making them while you are in class? I know a lot of people over the years who have does stuff with their hands while paying attention to lectures. Knitting socks, transcribing other notes, other homework, talking on their cell phone (and omg did i lay into that girl over that, she is lucky she had her phone after that one as I almost took it and threw it across the room), etc. It is just a though, doing some mindless activity while you are listening to a speech could actually help you focus more.

If you are courteous in your request, and not demanding, it is not rude to put the proposition to her.

But don't be surprised or disappointed if she does say no. People in business often won't work with materials supplied by someone else, for various reasons.

Also, she may not wish to encourage people to think she will work more cheaply than her set price.

OTOH, she may be an obliging person and happy to help out.

You won't know unless you try!

Best wishes :-)

Let's see, would you buy fabric and send it to Penney's and ask them to knock 60% off their prices for you?
Would you go to the local bakery and ask if you supplied the flour, cinnamon, yeast, etc, if they'd sell you cinnamon rolls for 40% of what they charge everyone else?
YES, it would be rude! Make'em yourself, or pay her price.

It's her TALENT she's charging for. Anyone can go to ANY dime store, pharmacy, Walmart, Kmart, ANY retail store that is not very, very specific in it's market and buy hair bows.

I don't think that it is rude at all. It does not hurt to ask and you providing the supplies and paying for her time. I'm sure she will be happy to help you.

No, if you are providing the supplies then there is no reason for her to charge you extra for the supplies. just take caution on how you ask her..You dont want to come off like you might be competition for her business.

Hope this Helps = )

Talk to her and explain your situation., Tell her that you love her work and wish that you were talented like that. Then tell her that you have a bunch of supplies at your home and that you were hoping that she could teach you how to make them. I am sure she wouldn't mind. She may even enjoy the company.,

No, just a simple business transaction. You're supplying the parts, she's supplying the labor.

Yes, it would be rude. Why would you expect this woman to put her work down and cater to you? She's running a business, not a nursery school for lazy moms. Manage your time and make your own bows.

I don't think it would be rude, just go to her and explain that you can't really afford them for 5 dollars, I'm sure she would understand.
