Someone I am close to, and that I occasionally need information from via e-mail keeps sending me 3 or 4 joke/chain letter/heart warming story/political statement e-mails 3 and 4 times a week. I can't block them, but want it to stop. Help!

I think we've all been there and feel your pain. The best advice I can give you is to (very gently) email this person and tell them (nicely) you're flattered/touched/appreciate his/her remembering you with all the forwards but your in box is getting impossible to get through, you just don't have the time, all the time, so you're asking EVERYONE to please limit the forwards to x amount per day/week/whatever you want. Close by saying if anyone can't decide which to forward you wouldn't be offended if they took you off their "forward" list for awhile. Remember to express that you hope you haven't offended anyone because that really is not the intention.
If you don't feel comfortable with something like that then just deal...delete,delete,delete!!!good luck!

You can tell them that you don't have time to look at those e-mails, so it would be nice if they could stop sending them since they all end up in the trash can anyway.

Or, you could tell them you often have little space in your inbox and such forwards sometimes take up so much space that you're not getting some important e-mails.

Or, if it's your work e-mail, tell them that you would prefer (or even have to) keep it strictly for business.

Just some ideas.

In a very nice way ask them not to forward you any jokes or chain mails, explain if they continue you will be forced to stop their mail . Sometimes it takes drastic measures but after awhile it gets to be a pain so stop it while you can.

Probably best to just delete them.

These emails are usually easy to spot when you see FW: in the message header.

If your friend really wants to send you an email and you haven't responded, I'm sure she will call.

That may be the time for you to suggest to her not to send junk emails.

tell them your computer can not handle all that junk mail and it's could cause more problems..Tell them u appreciate them thinking about you and maybe if they just sent an email asking you how you are or letting you know whats going on in their lives it would be great..

If it's work email tell them that you can't receive emails like that at work.

If it's personal emails, simply ask them not to send emails like that b/c it affects your spam blocker. Or you can say that it takes you so much longer to sift through important emails.

I once wrote to a friend who had a similar habit, "Thanks for the e-mails, but I would prefer to hear how you are and what you are doing than to receive these forwards. Send me a note now and then to tell me how things are going, but please, no more forwards."

It worked.

Just ask them to please exclude you from anything that is not work related, that you appreciate the thought, but you don't have time for personal e-mail.
