Why is it your business? Maybe they have a lot of cargo and it all wouldn't fit in a Geo Metro.
I drive an SUV and have no kids. I drive it because I have a big dog and she wouldn't fit in my old car (my 1990 Geo Metro). I drive my SUV because we have extremely rough winters and a car just isn't practical all of the time. I also drive my SUV because I enjoy camping a lot and I take my vehicle where cars can't go.
There are several reasons to drive an SUV other than having kids. Geez. Maybe the person who "attacked" you was just sick of defending themselves on why they drive an SUV.

As a rule, many (not all) conservatives live with a defensive attitude. They have to! They are always ready to defend how they live and how YOU and I should live. They don't have a good case on why they are driving an gas-guzzling, overpriced vehicle that seats 6, 7 or 8 passengers, but is only used by a "housewife" that goes for groceries, manicures and coffee. The cell phone is the same boastful message that spits out "money is no object" ...we get money the easy way. (well, my overpaid husband does)
You might see other signs of disregard by some conservatives toward others...
1. NRA, or hunting stickers or gun reference stickers
(so shooting people is ok, but they hate abortions)
2. They are all for helping people who are in need only if they can get a receipt
3. They are willing to give homeless and poor families thier leftovers or unwanted junk and outdated clothing
(but won't donate cash to or volunteer at a mission or soup kitchen)
4. They are all for having lots of kids, but will be the first to whisper a racist remark about a minority that has more than 2 children
5. They are so proper and peaceful in church on Sunday, but are the first to gossip when someone else commits a sin.
6. They give Christians a bad reputation by being gluttons, judgemental, racist, wasteful, boastful, liars, stingy, uncompassionate and vindictive.
So, that is why you were attacked...it is just thier way of protecting their pathetic lifestyle. Hope this helps.

I use an SUV with no kids because I like the room to put stuff in the back and haul it around. I also like the safety of an SUV, which tends to be much safer than a standard automobile. I also like driving when I am up a little higher. Plus, in the winter I don't get stuck in the snow, like I would with a car.
I also have a 3 mile commute each way to work, and as a result have only put 10,000 miles per year on my SUV. I also live in a modest house, keep my lights turned off, heat turned down, have never gone to central air conditioning, do not run my dishwasher, and do only full loads of laundry to conserve energy. I take showers that are under 5 minutes, do not use unnecessary cosmetics/aftershaves/etc.
Essentially, my carbon footprint is about as small as an American can have. So, if I want an SUV I feel no guilt about it at all. In fact, I'm turning this one in and getting another one this month.
