Yes, a host/hostess gift is very appropriate.
The gift can really depend on the person you are staying with. You can bring them a bottle of their favorite wine or liquor. You can bring them something nice for their house. You can give them a gift card to their favorite restaurant.
The gift doesn't need to be extravagant or expensive, but just a token of your appreciation.

If I'm invited to someones home, no, I don't expect to be charged to stay there. However, I do think that I use guest etiquette. I always remove my shoes, do not sit until the host sits or invites me to sit, among other things. I don't ask for alcohol unless offered, etc..... If your invited guest is doing this sleeping all day thing, it's best to give them the quickest heave ho possible, and never invite them again. A one way bus ticket back home may give them the hint.

Yes, that's a very good and appropriate idea. Depending on what they like, a bottle of good wine and a fine cheese would be nice. Usually can't go wrong with a nice bouquet of flowers to brighten the place up. You could also send them a gift basket as a post-visit thank you, or a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant.

It's always a good thing to bring a gift. If you know these people well enough this should be easy for you but there are lots of things you can do. A little basket of breakfast items, pancake mix, tea and coffees is good. A nice bottle of wine or champagne if they drink. Some monogrammed soaps and hand towels are a nice touch.

If this person is your relatives, than it would be more appropriate. If they are just a friend, than you should probably not get them a gift. But if you really feel the need to, than you should keep it under $20, and not anything to formal.

well, if you are from anouther area you could bring them something remnicent of where you are from, or if not just something usual gift certificates are nice, gift cards, some people drink wine, small box of gormat foods or whatever they like, just be sure to thank them when you leave : ) Some people appriciate hand written notes, others more apppreciate a spoken and genuine gesture. You could call ahead and ask someone there what they like - sometimes they will say. people usually like cookies - variety of samples is good.

You ask, I'm answering. Arrive with a bottle of wine/flowers/candies/a baked good....anything the "house," as a whole can enjoy...meaning everyone who lives there and will be hosting you.
Be a courteous guest..I think you know what courteous means.
When you leave, strip the bed for your hostess, tidy your room and leave a thank-you note/card somewhere she can find it.

It can something as simple as a bouquet of flowers. Since you are only staying for two days. It doesn't need to be elaborate. Box of chocolate. Their favorite wine. Or take them out to dinner.
