i was just cruising around reading questions i found interesting, and i came across questions of when its appropriate for guys to be shirtless in public. and the majority of responses were people saying its tasteless and never, and even stuff as crazy as a guy mowing the lawn with his shirt off and his dad made him cover up. i mean, i live in america, i dont know where that stuff was coming from, but am i crazy in knowing for a fact that theres nothing wrong with guys being shirtless period. yes no one wants to see a gnarley beer belly, but the point is when you go to the beach and your in the equivilent of boxers of special material around a million people as opposed to walking off the beach and down the street back to your house and mowing your lawn, uhhhh the fact is your still on this planet called earth, how are people so set in thinking that stuff. guys get to pee standing in full view and take shirts off, girls dont. what is wrong with everyone. mowing your lawn? gimme a break.

To conduct yourself as a gentleman to a lady you may happen to have your eye on?

From a female perspective - what do you prefer?

Is it still acceptable to open her car door for her, pay for dinner, and quietly listen and encourage her to talk rather than bragging about yourself?

Or do women prefer a guy who's a bit "louder" and more "self assured" - and basically a bit arrogant and a jerk?

I prefer to be the former - small gestures of politeness and particularly, staying quiet and listening to her talk.

Is this "old fashioned" or is it still appealing and attractive in a guy?

Thanks in advance!!

At Wal-Mart tonight I was on the phone with my mom and she noticed I was skipping isles and I kept telling her to remind me I needed to go back for split peas or toilet paper etc. She finally asked me why and I said because there were Amish people in the isle and they had small children. She said I was being rude for avoiding them when in all honesty I was not trying to be rude but was avoiding them so they didn't have to look away and their small children would not have to look at me and get into trouble. From what I understand they don't like to look at English people nor do they like their children to. Plus I was not caring what I looked like at the store and was wearing a pair of baggy jeans and a nightmare before christmas t-shirt. Was I rude for avoiding them? It's not like they KNEW I was avoiding them. I was attempting to be respectful.

I know they probably can't help having to go but I get annoyed when a public bathroom smells and I think people should try to do it at home if they can wait. Is it weird that I think that way?

& then you find out later that all she did was lie to you & start rumors about you behind your back?

I'm almost 30, & I've known this chick since 6th grade, & I thought she was my best friend. Well, she just got beat up by a guy yesterday & I just found out today that she is no good, & she spreads my personal business all the time.

This girl I played Lacrosse with-back in '04 and who graduated 2 years a head of me, just invited me to her Birthday party. We were acquatiances and when we see each other we do talk-just about whats going on etc. I've never hung out with her, and at one point I thought she didn't like me. It's been 2 years plus, since I last spoke to her and she invited me to her Birthday-so I go?..There will be 2 people there that I graduated with, one of whom I was friends with, and am more of an aqutiance with now. I am just not sure why she invited me though-your thoughts on what you think I should do or how you handled a similar incident would be great! Thanks.

I am all about people having privacy especially when they are entertaining guests, but this is an awkward situation. My neighbor's next door moved in about 6 months ago. I speak with them all of the time, our kids play, and we see them all of the time. They also talk to 2 other people on our street that they have made friends with. We are friends with one of the couples...the other we are just accquaintences with. We have had them over for dinner not to long ago, they showed up late and didn't seem appreciative. The other evening we were out having dinner as a family on our deck and they had the 2 couples over for dinner(right next door so of course we noticed), no invite to us and they don't like anyone else on the street. I am offended and have hurt feelings, I also see this as they must not like us even though they act like it. How awkward. What is the etiquitte of dealing with this situation?

Suppose you made a mistake or went over the top on an issue (by mistake, say). I respond to you by saying "Your parents are to blame for your irresponsible behavior - they should be caned". Will you tolerate my remark? It is free speech, though (at least according to the US constitution)

I'm mediocre a giving presentations, but I have to work with someone who's socially inept. I can't even understand him when he's speaking to me one-on-one in normal conversation because of a strong lack of confidence and jargoning. It feels impossible to bring him up to speed. Today I had to give a practice speech among my co-workers, and it was obvious to everyone that I was doing everything. Sometimes my partner gets nervous and says things that contradict me, he didn't mean it, he was just nervous and blurted it out to make noise as if he's giving a useful speech. What would you do? Would you tell you're manager that it's not working? Solutions?

Why or why not? I extremely hate the phone at work. Why can't people just communicate through e-mail. Maybe it's just my lack in social skills. What do you think?

Is the morally or spiritually wrong for me to tell on someone?

A friend of a friend is cheating the system by collecting housing and daycare assistance because they think she is a single mom, but she’s not. Her baby’s father is living with her and he makes pretty good money. She also has a pretty good job as well. They use the extra money to buy clothes, cars, and rims, etc… because the assistance pays all the rent ($1200). I want to call and report her because I think it’s wrong to cheat the system since there are real single moms out there that need help. Do you think I should mind my business? Is it wrong spiritually to tell on someone? I’d hate to tell her on and I get paid back for it (Karma).

What should I do?

When making hotel reservations and answering the question of how many people will be staying in the room are you always truthful, or have you used a lower (dishonest) number in order to keep your rate lower?

Just wondering as this is a point of honesty I sometimes struggle with myself...

We were sitting around BS'ing and one guy said he thought a security guard was going to beat his a*s one time for whatever reason (I can't remember). Then I asked him "Did he beat you like a Sunday morning woody?" Everyone was silent for a moment and then they all busted up, was that too politically incorrect?

there's this guy in my dorm. he's a total a$$. he has messed w/ my computer several times, never ruined it though. He's shot me with his airsoft gun and constantly treats me like $hit. i have done nothing to deserve this. if i don't like you, you leave me alone and i'll leave you alone. i consider that to be a good policy. he constantly goes out of his way to set me off. i decided if he lives in the same dorm again and shoots me i'll call the police. and if he messes w/ my computer again i'll dump acid on his 2005 mustang. (I'm a chem minor, so I got connections.) don't bother telling me to ignore him and it'll go away. it doesn't. my parents told me that since grade school and i got tired of listening to them and finally beat the guy up. now we're friends. I can't beat him up cuz I could go to jail, however if he hits me first i can press charges for assault and he won't be allowed within 500 yards of me. what is the best way to deal with this a$$hole?

Okay, no one washes their hands every single time after they use the bathroom, I get that. But don't you think it's disgusting and rude when you're in public bathroom and you're standing there while someone comes out of a stall, maybe even looks at the sinks, or at you, and just leaves? If you come out of the stall and there are people there, the least you can do is wash your hands. Does anyone else think it's stupid of people not to wash their hands at least when people are around, who are watching them not wash the disgusting germs off of their hands?
