I was never taught to cross at the ankle, only at the knee. But I read that theory about crossing at the ankle but it is more natrual for me at the knee I guess

I cross them at the knee but the right way for a lady to sit is crossing the legs at the ankles.

I was taught to cross at the knee but when I got older my understanding now is that the ankle is considered more ladylike. It's more comfortable to cross at the knee but it can cause hip problems.

Crossing your legs at the ankle assures that if you are wearing a dress, nothing is showing that should not be. If you are wearing jeans or slacks, either is fine. Personally, i am short, so crossing at the ankle is just more comfortable. I do think though that Ms. Manners and her counterparts will say that crossing at the ankle is more lady like.

It is generally more appropriate to cross the legs at the ankle and keep the knees together.

Crossed at the ankle is more demure, thus ladylike, and the knee is a little more contemporary and flirty, but I think less comfortable.

Any more it's personal preference

Both are acceptable. If you have fat thighs it's best to cross them at the ankles because it difficult to do it at the knee.

To be honest with you, I sit in the most comfortable position. Most of the time at my desk cross at the ankles. I try not to cross them at all due to sitting at a desk all day.
