Never acceptable, although I see it being done.
I work in an EMI home where spitting is the norm, but we still have to say to the resident that it is not acceptable. Their usual reaction is to say that they didn't do it!
But these are elderly mentally infirm residents - that does not excuse young people who spit in the streets (or in your face if they think you are too old to challenge them).
It's a bad world.

It sickens me, I get thoroughly disgusted especially when I almost step in someone's slime. It's even more horrific when someone spits a hocker out the window while they are driving down the street.

Pretty gross... I was once on my way to college and this guy hoiked up as much phlegm as he could from his nose and chest and then spat it out, only to miss and hit his shoulder, so he proceeded to wipe his shoulder on the nearest lamppost. Of course I walked past and loudly commented to my friend how pathetic the chap was, but to be honest, anyone who spits in the street looks kind of 'special' to me, I mean, it's not nice.

Excretions of bodily fluids are best done in private in a proper receptacle, if only for the sake of public hygiene and decorum.

I always strive to make "Miss Manners" proud of my conduct.

I have read a book about about good and bad omens
and it says spitting is a good omen as it is meant to
get rid of all the evil stuff inside a person.

Why don't people spit into tissue paper or something then put it in a garbage bin or do it in the restroom?

its bang out of order its a *CHAV* culture people who spit ahave the same attitudes as them *i dont care*

no offence if you got phlegm get a tissue or like swallow it.. so what if it tastes rank i would prefer to swallow than show my bodily fluids all over the pavements.

same goes for people who spit gum etc...

dirty scumbags go back to your council estates stop ruining nice towns
