I don't know about you, but sometimes i find it awkward to start a conversation with someone. Weather it be my girlfriend, a friend, or someone i don't know. What do you think is the best way to open a conversation. And what sort of topics do you think are interesting and would make a good conversation??

for the past week i've been watching different news, and talk shows, with nothing but black america fuming over this word. Now they are saying the word is being used as a slap in the face of their race because its an insult! I watch alot of college and pro sports, hear alot of rap and hip hop artist, and for most part they aren't ARTICULATE. Especially the ones with a 4 year degree from college, being interviewed, talking dis and dat, wassup, yo yo yo, what it is, chissel with my sizzle, Ebonics isnt an ARTICULATE language! Its a lazy approach to the english language, and it really makes them sound ignorant! They're doing their best to divide the country....Maybe they need to look who's actually supporting their cause, and affording them their big salaries. Or better yet look up the definition of the word?? There is not one instance referring the use of the word as a derogatory term! GET OVER IT WHINNERS!

I go to 7-11 in the mornings and buy coffee and donuts. There is this female cashier who is super friendly to all the customers. However, when it's my turn to pay, she always never makes eye contact with me and she isn't friendly. But this is what bothers me. When I walk out of 7-11 and open my car door she is STARING at me. Then I sit in my carseat and put my seatbelt on, and she is STARING AT ME while serving the next customer. Then I back out and drive off and she STARES at me drive away. But everytime I interact with her she refuses be nice to me. Like I said she is super nice to everyone else and I always smile and greet her and tell her thank you but she doesn't speak to me. So if she doesn't want to speak to me or treat me in a friendly manner, why would she STARE at me everytime I go into my car and drive off?

Why do people register for wedding gifts at Macy's and/or baby gifts at Babies R us, when you know they shop at wall mart , kmart and target themselves?

Really you know these people only go to high end stores when they register for gifts.

Seriously? Why don't they register at Target , the same place they buy their stuff.
These people send us all over the place buying their picked out gifts , who spends $100 bucks on baby sheets?
I would be embarssed presenting you with a single towel even if we both know it was 50 bucks!

I am 20 something , married with kids I never did this stuff?? LMAO ..of course I am invited to something every month now where they registered at a high end, unfamilar store!

REGISTER AT TARGET FOR STUFF YOU WANT!
Am I off? Or should I just buy Books on manners and cases of diapers for these kind of people??

I'm going to host a rather formal dinner party and I'd like to invite my good friend, she's a wonderful cook and more than willing to help me with the party. But, that means I'll have to include her new boyfriend, too. The problem is, that guy is not dressing up well, his 'clubbing' attire is mama's jeans and sneakers--and he thinks combination of khaki pants, sweater, and crocs is fine clothing for x-mas eve with my gf's parents.

The other guests are important people to my husband, like his boss and his boss' bosses with their spouses. They dress like typical corporate people. How to tell my gf, or better, tell her new bf to dress up for the party without offending him? He's over 40 and I'm like 10 years younger.

I have been getting Botox injections by set appointment at a Spa for a year (a DOCTOR administers the injections). My question is if I should tip him as any other Spa service (like a massage)? Before a relocation my injections were at a Doctor's office (so no tipping)—but am confused by what is customary at a Spa. Insight or links to advice would be perfect! Thanks.

Please no responses to debate the effcts of botox, blah-blah-blah...will report.

Additional Details:
For those that have answered my previous question, thanks, but the botox is administered by a DOCTOR (otherwise it's a- illegal and b-not safe). Basically he is a plastic surgeon (reputable) who does "clinics" once a month at a Spa for an hour or so. So this isn't a normal hourly employee, or low-pay deal. The procedure takes about 3 min (time for 11 quick pin-pricks) and cost $550. So tip or no? Would tipping a doctor be in bad form? I don't think he'd outwardly take offense (he's a nice guy)—but don't want to offend.

I am a redneck woman who considers herself married to a Russian woman, and we've hyphenated names. I'm glad I did it, but I'm finding a few problems. For example, I have to say, just as my wife has, "My name may be long and Russian, but it's easy if you break it into parts." On a couple of petitions and on a site where most everyone uses full names, I can't make it fit into the name space! And since mine comes first, people keep wanting to call me by just her name. Plus some of my relatives have decided they won't use it.

Has anyone else run into problems like these after hyphenating your name? How do you gracefully deal with it?

Drivers in the U.S. have no consideration for fast drivers. They clog the left lanes in highways and in order to pass them you have to constantly switch lanes. And if you ask them to move they are always distracted eating, drinking, talking on their cel. phones. It is frustrating ...

In honor of my 35th birthday, my husband and I are inviting my cousins and a close friend for a limo ride out to an expensive restaurant. We expect to pay the tab, but would it be in poor taste to include on the invite we are hosting dinner and non-alcoholic beverages? We kept the party size small to minimize costs (since we have the limo to avoid drinking and driving), and are providing champagne prior to and during limo service. These are heavy drinkers and could spend more on the drinks than the food.
