Can someone give me some examples of what to put in my cover letter? thanks

A cover letter can be tricky. I recently was searching for a job in a law firm, it took a couple months and many cover letters. I did some research online and these were the best tips I found.

First, figure out what you want to say, I put a few links down below that not only have many cover letter examples, they have career specific examples. So you can basically find the one that matches the career you're going into and then just modify it to meet your criteria.

Second, cover letters should not repeat what your resume says. They should highlight with only things NOT in your resume (i.e, great work ethic, special projects you accomplished in school). Just anything that will make you stand out. Just remember there will be some person looking at tons of these, most are real cookie cutter, you want yours to stand out in some way.

Third, be as specific as possible. If you know the name of the person that will be reading the letter, address it to them. Try to put some impressive company information in there too (i.e I know you're company has been voted # 2 for the past three years). They will be impressed that you took the time to research the company.

Just take the time to set down and write it as best as you can. Then take a break, and go back tommorow and try to edit it and make it even better. And remember with each job you send it to, you need to update it to be specific to that company.
